She watched Draco disappear, the space his body had taken up immediately refilling with water. He'd be safe just about anywhere that wasn't here, but with Narcissa was where Valentine thought he should have been at a time like this.
There wasn't any more time to think about her cousin. She could hear the Carrow's voices on the wind. It sounded very much like they were arguing but she couldn't make out many distinct words aside from 'dumbass', 'Dark Lord' and 'bitch'.
She used the support post to push herself out into the water, diving down several feet and heading for the adjacent post of the central tower.
She reached it without much trouble, now hiding beneath the platform where she could hear the Carrow's much better than before.
"-idiot! You damn, idiot! Why did you let her get away!" Alecto shouted, anger heavy on her words. "She's probably talking to the Dark Lord right this moment! She's all but got him wrapped around her little finger!"
"You're the one that got taken out by that simpleton of a boy!" Amycus shot back. "If you'd kept your guard up he'd never been able to distract us like that and we'd still have the girl! This is on you!"
"Oh, that's rich coming from the guy who let that same boy jump into the lake and then took his eyes off that girl same!"
"Well, the boy wouldn't have been jumping anywhere if we'd have just killed him like I said we should have!"
"Don't you ever listen? We needed him to make the bargain, you fucking idiot! Lestrange never would have willingly gone with us if she didn't know for certain that he was safe!"
"Who said anything about her going willingly? There's two of us against one of her!"
"And there you go again! She took down a fucking troll, Amycus! You almost died that day because you underestimated her! And now look at the mess we're in! Once the Dark Lord gets his hands on us we're as good dead!"
Valentine hated to agree with either of the Carrow's, but Alecto was making some decent points. Amycus was letting his fervour and need for revenge drive him to the edge of senselessness- which was particularly dangerous for him as he'd had very little of it to begin with. He underestimated his opponent. He ignored all likelihood of this ending badly for him. He turned his back on Voldemort and his sister. All to get back at a seventeen-year-old who lashed out at him in order of not allowing some scum over twice her age to force himself onto her. If Valentine had been in Alecto's place and Draco's had been in Amycus's, she could only imagine how firstly, horrified she would be and secondly, how furious. It was almost too bad that Alecto couldn't have been more reasonable in her life and not thrown it all away to a fanatical, prejudiced, dictator. But that really wasn't any of Valentine's concern.
She reached to grab the platform, curling her fingers over the edge. Then, using more effort than she would have cared to admit, pulled herself up to peer over the top. She could only hold her body weight up like this for several seconds, but it was just enough time to see the Carrow's standing in the centre of the platform, still arguing.
She let herself drop back into the water, latching onto the post once again. They'd both have their wands out, but would certainly be caught off guard by a sudden attack as they believed that Valentine had fled. She reminded herself not to get too cocky, however. The Carrow's still had years of experience that she lacked and she wouldn't stumble blindly into the same issue as Amycus by underestimating her opponent.
