Sim mansion:

Jake's pov:

The dim glow of the moon poured through the open window, casting silver light across the quiet room. A gentle breeze rustled the sheer curtains, but Jake didn't move.

He sat motionless on the edge of his bed, his fingers gripping a single, worn photograph.

Solon.

The image was slightly faded, but the face in it was unmistakable-the sharp yet delicate features, the regal posture, the warmth in his eyes that Jake would never see again.

Jake's throat tightened. His grip on the photo trembled.

"...You're gone."

The words barely escaped him, a whisper swallowed by the night.

He had told himself countless times-Sunghoon is not Solon. No matter how eerily similar they looked, no matter how his heart twisted whenever he saw Sunghoon's face-it wasn't him.

Solon was gone.

And it was his fault.

A shaky breath left his lips as his other hand curled into a fist, his nails digging into his palm. His fangs ached, his entire body tense with the familiar self-loathing that never left him.

"I should've saved you," he murmured, his voice breaking. "I should've-"

His breath hitched as a single tear slipped down his cheek, falling onto the photograph. He quickly wiped it away, but more followed, streaking down his face before he could stop them.

A monster.

That's what he was. That's what he became.

A creature that lived in the shadows, cursed with immortality, forced to watch everything he loved slip away while he remained, unchanging.

But Solon-

Solon had been human. Solon had been alive.

And Jake had failed him.

His shoulders shook as he pressed the photograph to his forehead, his teeth gritted in anguish.

"...Why did you have to leave me?"

The silence gave no answer.

Just like the night Solon had died, when Jake had screamed for him, begged for him to stay, and all he received was the fading warmth of a body growing cold in his arms.

Jake clenched his jaw, his tears falling freely now. His breath came in uneven shudders, his entire being drowning in the grief that never truly faded.

No matter how much time passed.

No matter how much blood he drank.

No matter how many times he told himself that this was his fate.

He would always be nothing more than a monster.

And Solon would always be the one he could never save.
