Chapter 3- familiar
I jerked myself awake from a sudden nightmare. I didn’t realize that I fell asleep on Jacob’s couch; Billy was at Sue Clearwater’s house with Charlie- so that left me and Jacob with the house all to ourselves. But I was suddenly tired, Jacob carried me from my truck to the couch where he laid me down.
I could see every detail of the dream and could almost taste the rich bitter blood that hung in the air of the ancient marble room. I blinked my eyes trying to clear the imagery from my head but when I did the dream flashed back to my conscious mind. There was the Volturi enjoying their captured humans- blood ran down the light gray marble walls and a huge puddle of the red substance mixed with mangled torn dead human bodies. The main members of the Volturi had their backs towards the door, all of them facing the ancient chairs. Then suddenly they all turned around at the appearance of someone’s footsteps entering the master room.
“Ahh I see that you have returned after such a short period of time?” asked Aro as he smiled, blood still dripping from his chin. They were all covered in the slain humans’ blood but they didn’t seem to notice or even cared, they resembled the presence of wild animals that had just stalked its prey and then killed it viciously.
“What is it that you want this time?” snapped Jane with her blood-stained face matched her ruby red eyes.
“I wish for you to end my life.”I could not see the person who spoke but I would know that voice anywhere. The dark figure stepped out of the shadows and the light revealed my suspicion true- it was Edward.
“And why should we grant your request?” questioned Caius sneering towards Edward’s direction with such hatred in his red eyes.
“Because I have nothing else to live for,” he simply answered in a tone that expressed at how his heart was truly broken.
“Just give into his request Aro, you know that you wish to do it anyway, and the matter will be over with because Edward does not want to become part of us. So just take his life, it’s what he wants,” said Marcus lazily.
“NO! Edward you can’t do this! Just think about what it would do to your family?” I shouted but for some strange reason no one heard a single word I had said, it was as if I was a ghost.
“Very will then my dear Edward come to me,” replied Aro towards the person who I used to hold deep inside my heart. Slowly Edward started making his way to the older vampire. The expression he wore on his face showed that of a man on fire, burning slowly and painfully to his death.
“NO!! Edward please listen to me! You can not do this, just because I left you doesn’t give you the right to kill yourself over me! You still have a family that loves you and that’s what you have to live for now!” I pleaded but it was useless. I could not make myself move from this very spot, I was frozen in place and so was my voice no matter how hard I screamed at him to stop. I could feel hot tears falling down my face as I watched as he knelt front of Aro and simply hung his head down.
“I’m sorry Edward but if this is what you wish,” said Aro as he placed his blood covered hands on either side of Edward’s face. I jerked harder to free myself from the invisible barrier that held me in place to stop this madness before it could happen. But Aro quickly snatched upward and I heard the defeating sound of cracking stone and I jolted awake.
