Chapter 8- strange alliance

Felix and I pulled up our hoods and made sure that every patch of our diamond-like skin was covered by our cloaks before we stepped out from under the protection of the clock tower. As soon as I walked out onto the cobblestone opening I glanced up towards the sun and stopped with Felix following my every move. Where the sun’s position was it had to at least be two o’clock in the afternoon.

I brought my gaze back downward looking at all of the humans walking about, exploring the large area, glazing intently at some of the displays for the festival. I noticed that they were wearing costumes: women dressed in long flowing gowns that would be found in a princess’s closet and men looking as if they belonged to the royal king’s army- their metal surface of their knight uniforms reflecting blinding shards of sunlight.

“Felix, why are the animals dressed like this?” I asked looking over at the taller vampire.

“They are having their annual Medieval Festival, it’s where they reenact the-“

“Let me guess, act as if they’re still in the Medieval times?”

“Yeah basically,” he answered.

“So there will be a lot for us to choose from?” I questioned.

“Yes and with the chaos of everything going on with the festival it will leave the humans at a disarray, which means they’re not going to be paying close enough attention to their surroundings today,” explained Felix.

Right then and there I already knew that I had one older vampire on my side, not including Aro who already worships the ground I walk on. But with Felix thinking in the same manner as me, it lets me see who I can trust when I force my plan into action, which is coming soon.

“I like the way you think Felix,” I appraised. “What a strange alliance we have just made.”

“Yes indeed Bella, I will be gladly to be on your side any day,” he replied as he nodded his head once towards me.

“That’s good to hear Felix, very good,” I smiled and just as I was about to take a step forward I added something more to my statement. “I’m glad to hear that I wouldn’t have wanted to have you killed, it’s always better to have an ally than an enemy.”

I continued deeper across the cobblestone making me way through the humans now, and finally having Felix join in right behind me after a moment’s hesitation after my last sentence, which seemed to shock him at first.

As I was now standing close to the middle of the growing crowd, having the fountain towards my left, I was starting to notice something about myself as my breathing had suddenly picked up and my animal side starting to kick in.

I could feel each of their pulses pounding away with every breath they took. I also noticed that my pace had slowed down as I glanced across the exposed throats. They were all gaining closer and closer towards me as the crowd was moving in the direction of the fountain.

Now I could hear each of the animals’ hearts strumming, pumping more blood into their veins. Suddenly my senses selected something out on my left, something that was too strong to just ignore.

I stopped now glancing towards the fountain staring at a child, who had just fell against the rough surface of the cobblestones, the little boy’s leg scraped and blood dripping from his knee slowly.

I could sense every drop of his blood as it silently hit the stones; the smell suddenly filled my senses. I could feel my newborn state kick in and just as I was about to turn in the little boy’s direction and make my attack something hit me head on.

As I whirled back around forward, seeing a human had ran right into me.

“I’m so sorry miss,” apologized the teenage boy.

I was still in my newborn state, losing control of my power of the thirst, and having a blood filled human standing so close to me was something that I couldn’t handle.

The boy’s face changed from being sorry to being totally scared to death as I glared him down about to spring into a crouch to lunge for his throat. But before I could launch my attack someone very strong caught both of my upper arms pulling me towards them.

“Watch where you’re going man,” scoffed Felix as he pushed us forward and out of the crowd.

Once we were out of the center of the square, Felix never letting his grip go- which I was glad he didn't- he stopped us a few yards in one of the many dark alleys, giving us a huge amount of space between us and the humans.

He threw me against one of the wall roughly, causing my hood to fall off. He pushed his own hood back and stopped right up against me and the wall, his large hands pressing against the cobblestone wall- each one along each side of my head- glaring down at me with wild red eyes.

“What’s your problem?” he questioned, barely whispering for the humans, but for us vampires he was full blown yelling.

“Well in case you have forgotten, I’m still a newborn and I haven’t had to face a crowd like that much less with someone bleeding,” I answered back in a sharp chipped voice glaring him down.

“You almost exposed us all, you have to be better in control,” he added sounding a little calmer.

“I know and I’m sorry,” I admitted even though I wanted to yell at him, but I remembered that I need to keep him on my side not against me. “And thanks by the way about before.”

“Yeah no problem,” he said stepping back.

“Why don’t we just keep this between the two of us, I don’t think that Aro needs to know about this,” I suggested.

“Yes I agree.”

“Alright why don’t we do what we came out here to do, hunt,” I said as I moved to the end of the dark alley with Felix standing right beside me.

Just our luck there was a young couple walking towards our direction. I pressed my back against the right wall, with Felix doing the same on the left wall, both of us hiding in the shadows waiting for our perfect moment.

As soon as they were covered in darkness we both moved at the same time, springing down on our prey. Not one scream had escaped them as we fed quickly before anyone else would enter this alley. After we were finished, my hunger was gone- just barely under the surface and I was back in control of myself.

“Make it look like a mugging,” I said as I dumped the girl’s purse, spilling everything out across the ground around them.

“Very good,” approved Felix.

I stood back up wiping my mouth, the alley and Felix along with the dead bodies disappeared and I saw a quick bright light. I held my head tightly in between my hands, as this time it was much stronger than I have ever had to deal with, studying the blackness closely.

“Bella are you alright?” asked Felix noticing me.

There the psychic was sitting on the Cullens’ white couch with the mother, and the father, and the blonde standing around her. But there was something missing. I hear them talking.

“Come on Alice you have to at least locate her or the Volturi, you have to tell Edward and the rest of them where they’re at so they can find her,” said the blonde.

“She’s trying Rose,” answered the father.

“Wait I see her, barely, with Jacob and Edward in an alley,” replied the pixie slowly. I saw the place in her head and then I shot out my power full force.

Slowly I gained the vision of the present and Felix was standing right in front of me touching my shoulder, looking at me with concern.

“What did you say?” I asked blinking and dropped my hands away from my head.

“I said are you alright?” he questioned with the look of confusion.

“Yes and you won’t believe it, the Cullen is here along with the werewolf,” I answered in alluring and wicked voice, a smiled spread across my face as the thoughts came of an excellent plan for them both…
