The bright lights hurt her eyes. Everything was white… too white.
Rhea slowly opened her eyes. It felt like her eyelids were made of stone. Her whole body was weak, her mind blank. She blinked a few times, trying to make sense of where she was.
And then… she saw him.
A man was sitting beside her. The moment her eyes met his, his face broke into a smile.
His eyes welled up with tears, and that smile was not just happy, it was full of relief. Like he had been waiting for years just for this moment.
He stood up quickly, his voice shaking. “Doctor! She’s awake! Call the doctor!”
Doctors and nurses rushed in. They checked her pulse, her breathing, her heart rate. They asked her questions.
“What’s your name?”
“Do you know where you are?”
“Can you tell us the date?”
But all Rhea could do was stare at them blankly. Her lips trembled. “l... I don’t know. I don’t remember anything...”
The doctors looked at each other, concerned. They asked a few more questions.
But Rhea gave the same answer every time “I don’t know.”
Finally, they left her room. The man who had been sitting with her earlier was asked to wait outside. He stood outside the room, restless, rubbing his hands together.
After some time, one of the doctors called him into the cabin.
“Please sit,” the doctor said, looking serious. “We need you to listen carefully.”
He sat down, his heart racing.
“She has lost her memory,” the doctor said softly.
“She doesn’t remember anything from her past, not her name, not her life, not even you.”
His face turned pale.
“There’s more,” the doctor continued. “Her brain was damaged during the accident. It’s... it’s very unlikely she will recover these memories. They are permanently erased.”
Devansh sat like a statue...
No reaction...
No words...
Just a blank stare...
“We also suggest not stressing her too much,” the doctor added.
“Her mind is fragile right now. Please be gentle with her.”
Devansh stood up quietly and walked back to her room. His footsteps were slow. Heavy.
Inside the room, Rhea was sitting in the corner of the hospital bed.
Her knees pulled close to her chest. Her eyes were empty, like a lost child. She looked around the room as if everything was new, everything was strange.
Devansh walked in slowly. She looked at him with confusion but didn’t move.
He went near her and sat down beside her on the bed. Gently, he held her hand.
She pulled her hand slightly, scared. But then... something in his touch felt familiar. She didn’t understand why, but she didn’t pull her hand away.
The warmth was... real.
She looked at him and softly asked, “Who are you?”
He smiled a little and replied, “I’m Devansh… Devansh Thakur.”
