5 years ago:

"Siya! I'm gonna break the door if you don't open it!"

Sanya, Siya's best friend, yelled in frustration, yet there was a note of concern in her voice. She had been trying, unsuccessfully, for the last thirty minutes to get best friend to open the door and free her from the confinement of her room that she had locked herself in for the last two days.

Two days ago, Siya had discovered the love of her life, her fiancé, that asshole, in bed with her dear step sister.
Of course, that had broken her heart and left her shattered. All her dreams and aspirations, were gone- just like her mother.

She hadn't come out of her room since.

"Siya, okay, you're not gonna open it? Fine!" Sanya yelled and rolled her sleeves up.

"I hope you have enough money, because you'll be needing to get this door fixed. I'm coming in!" Sanya took a deep breath, grinning, knowing she'll never need to follow on with her threat.

"One, two-three!"

And just as she had predicted, on the count of three, the door was swung open by a grumpy looking Siya, cursing under her breath and glaring at her best friend.

"I just got this door fixed, I'm not letting you break it down, again!"

Sanya smirked, and walked inside, taking in the condition of the room. Books were scattered around the floor, lying half open. The vintage mirror on the wall lay shattered with shards of glasses resting on the floor. Sanya carefully walked past it, sitting on the bed whose bedsheet was half hanging off of the bed.

"Well...seems like your room just survived a cyclone," Sanya remarked idly, smirking at her Siya.

Her best friend did not return the smile. For the first time, Sanya took in the appearance of her friend.

If it was even possible, Siya looked worse than her room did.

Her hair was a mess, tangled and loose strands of hair hanging around her face which had turned tear strains running down her cheeks. Her eyes looked red and puffy from crying.

"You look horrible," she said. Siya sniffed and rolled her eyes.

"I fucking bet I do," Siya snarled, throwing a pillow at her friend. Sanya dodged it.

"I told you I don't wanna see anyone!  So why..." her voice got caught in her throat, tears threatening to spill from her eyes again.

Sanya crossed the length of the room in quick strides and wrapped her arms gently around her friend.

"There there," she patted her back. "You don't need to waste your tears for that cow".

Siya grabbed Sanya's shirt and clung harder, her tears finally falling freely down her cheeks.

"It's okay..."

"No it's....it's not okay!" Siya screamed and flung herself down on the floor. "I never...ever...!"

Sanya sat down and looked helplessly at her crying mess of a friend. She felt terrible for her but didn't know what she could do to make her friend feel better. She sometimes hates the fact that she can't express her emotions properly.

"Siya..." she started but was cut off.

"I trusted him," Siya cried, dabbing at her tears with the hem of her dress. "I trusted h-him with everything. Told him everything, I was v-vulnerable with him. I th-thought that he was...was d-different..."

"But again", Siya let out a humourless laugh "God loves to...mess with me. Why, what have I done to deserve this?"

Sanya grabbed her face softly, shaking her head.

"You did nothing wrong. It's others who have wronged you".

"Then why do I always have to suffer like this? Why does everyone always end up leaving me?"

"Those who left you never understood how valuable you were. It's his loss. I told you, I never liked him anyway".

All Siya could do was nod, letting a chocked laugh escape her lips.

"I never...thought...that bitch," Siya muttered, dabbing at her wet eyes with a handkerchief. She blew her nose.

"What am I going to do now?" Siya asked, staring blankly at Sanya. Her best friend sighed and grabbed her purse.

"Now, I'm not really supposed to be doing this," she muttered as she dug around her purse, finally pulling out a slip of paper.

"What's that?" Siya asked.

"This," Sanya began, waving the slip in front of her face, "is your ticket to heaven".

"What?" Siya said, rightfully so. Sanya, however, though she was being dim.

"This is a plane ticket", she explained.

Siya's eyes widened.

"WHAT?"

"Calm down!" Sanya exclaimed. "It's for you. Well, not really. My father wanted me to go to Paris to meet this 'cute' guy", she air-quoted the word "cute", rolling her eyes. "As if I'm gonna marry a man of his choice. Anyway, so as I'm not gonna go, I was wondering what to do with the plane ticket as it was quite expensive", Sanya looked at Siya with hopeful eyes.

Siya immediately shook her head.

"No," she said. "I am not meeting a guy for you, I'm done with men—"

"Listen to me first!" Sanya cut in impatiently. "I'm not asking you to meet this man, hell no. I'm just," Sanya looked at Siya, with real concern this time. "I just want you to be find yourself again. To be happy".

Siya paused, her sharp retorts dying in her throat as she took in her words. She looked at her best friend's eyes filled with concern and worry—for her.

"Still, a Paris—"

"—is the city of romance, so they say", Sanya cut in gleefully. "You might even find someone who can pull you out of your misery".

Siya sighed, then laughed. God, this was the first time she had laughed since she found out what a cheating scum her fiancé was.

"I told you," she chimed in, hitting Sanya playfully on the arm. "I'm done with men".

"Okay—not for passionate love, go for self love then", Sanya offered. "Go to turn over a new leaf and come back as a new person".

Siya paused for a while, considering it.

Sanya held her breath, and as each second passed, she began to understand that all her efforts had gone to vain.

"Okay, fine, I'll just tear the tick—"

"I'm going".

It took a second for Sanya to understand what was said to her.

A/N: Yeah, I'm still alive, I guess.
