chapter twenty-four: your agony

"Are you sure you want to see him alone?", Jungkook asked as they arrived at the lobby of the company owned by Chanyeol that morning.

"Yeah, I want to do it myself. You, Ms Kim and your friends, Jungkook...all of you have helped me a lot. I don't want you guys to get involved in this until it affects you in public. All of you must stay anonymous. That's what's best for everyone, don't it?", Chaeyoung replied.

Jisoo looked at Jungkook, who seemed to signalling her to disagree with Chaeyoung.

"Ms Park is right but...", Jisoo turned to face Chaeyoung. "I think I can act like your lawyer to accompany you up there. Just in case you need support."

Chaeyoung smiled faintly before shaking her head, "Thanks, Ms Kim but I want to do this alone. I want to face him and settle this with him by myself."

"But, Chaeyoung, what if-"

"Do you not trust me, Jungkook?", her words silenced him. "I'll be fine. Just pray for me from here, hm?", she asked him.

He slowly nodded in defeat.

"Both of you stay here. I'll be back once everything is settled with him.", Chaeyoung said before she turned around to go to the reception counter.

"Chaeyoung!", Jungkook stopped her. "Is your shades with you?", he asked.

She looked in her handbag and nodded to him.

"Wear it if you feel uncomfortable.", he told her before she left him with Jisoo behind.

When she reached the receptionist, she was greeted by the reception staff warmly.

"Welcome to Shanghai Port Logistics HQ. How may I help you, Ma'am?", the black haired young lady asked her.

"Hi, um, my name is Park Chaeyoung. I'm here to see the CEO of the company, Mr Park Chanyeol.", Chaeyoung replied.

The staff frowned a little, "Do you have an appointment scheduled with him, Ma'am?"

Chaeyoung slowly shook her head.

"Is there any important reason for you to see him? I'm sorry for asking this question but we cannot allow just anyone to see the CEO, Ma'am."

Chaeyoung nodded to the staff, "Tell your CEO my name. He will allow me."

The staff scrutinised her with a sharp look.

"My name is Park Chaeyoung. Please.."

"Alright. I'll try. Please wait here.", the staff turned around and stepped away a little to use the landline phone to call the CEO of the company.

Jisoo and Jungkook took a seat at the lounging area as they watched Chaeyoung from afar.

"Mr Jeon, can I ask you something?", Jisoo tried to break the silence.

Jungkook did not respond.

"Mr Jeon?", she called him again. "Mr Jeon Jungkook?"

"Hm? Yeah.", he finally looked up to her. "I'm sorry, did you say something, Ms Kim?"

Jisoo smiled before nodding, "I was just asking if I could ask you something but...maybe we should wait until she's out of our sight, hm?"

Both of them turned their eyes to Chaeyoung again.

"Uh..yeah.", Jungkook replied shyly.

Seconds later, they saw Chaeyoung following the staff to the lift.

"Yoongi told me you two are important to him. I know you're his best friend but I never heard about Ms Park. She's important to you, isn't she?", Jisoo asked the man sitting on the couch beside her.
