Jungkook did not wait until night time.
The moment the call ended, he grabbed his jacket, left the office, and drove straight back to Crista Haven.
When Chaeyoung opened the door, her eyes widened the second she saw him.
"Jungkook?", she was clearly did not expect him to come right away.
Without a word, he gently took her hand in his. His touch was firm, but not forceful.
"Let's talk now. Please..", he said.
"O- okay but...let's go to your house instead.", Chaeyoung replied.
"Jungkook?", another voice interrupted them. "Oh, you're here."
"Lisa, hi.", Jungkook greeted as he saw her standing next to Chaeyoung.
Lisa smiled before looking at Chaeyoung and told her to settle her problem with Jungkook quickly.
"I'll watch Haneul here. You two, go away.", she pushed Chaeyoung out of her own house and closed the door on them.
Jungkook furrowed his brow at Lisa's action.
"Haneul is home?", he asked Chaeyoung.
"Yeah, Lisa helped me pick her up earlier.", she replied.
"Come on in.", Jungkook said quietly, holding the door open to his apartment next door.
Chaeyoung walked in without another word, arms folded again, her movements stiff. The door clicked shut behind them, sealing them into the soft silence of his space.
He followed her in, watching the way she avoided looking at him, how her shoulders remained tense even though she was trying to seem composed. As they both reached the living room, Jungkook invited her to sit on the sofa with him.
"Baby..", he began, his voice low. "I'm sorry for doing something without your knowledge."
She turned around, eyes softer now. "Haneul told me what happened. About how she didn't want me to be sad, that's why she didn't tell me anything yesterday. And she said she's happy today. All because of you."
Jungkook smiled, "I just want to make sure both of you are happy."
"I know. It's just...I’m still scared.", she admitted. "They’re saying awful things online,” she said. "About me. About Haneul. Calling me an attention seeker. A bad mother. Saying I used you to-"
Jungkook's expression tightened, but his voice remained steady. "Don’t read them."
"I can’t help it.", she said, almost in a whisper. "It’s like they’re everywhere. Just when I thought I could finally breathe again, this happens. And now it’s not just me. They’re talking about Haneul, too. She’s just a kid, Jungkook."
He took another step closer, gently placing his hand over hers. "I know. But listen to me, those people? They don’t know you. They don’t know what you’ve been through. What you’ve survived. They hide behind screens and say whatever they want because they don’t have to face you."
Her eyes welled up, but she held his gaze.
"I’m not strong like you think I am.", she whispered.
"Yes, you are.", he said firmly. "You’ve been strong every day since you lost her. And now you’re fighting to protect her again. That’s strength, Chae. Don’t let a bunch of strangers convince you otherwise."
She swallowed hard, breathing shaky. "But, what if it gets worse?"
"Then, ignore them.", he said, his voice calm but unwavering. "Ignore the comments."
