chapter twenty-three: your distraction

The flight to Shanghai took approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, enough for a movie or a short sleep while in the aeroplane, which both Jungkook and Chaeyoung had done.

After the unexpected meeting with his mother, both of them did not talk much along the way to the airport and in the aeroplane. Chaeyoung chose to sleep along the way while Jungkook watched a movie in silence. However, Jungkook was not paying attention to the movie at all as he was thinking about the reason his mother suddenly appeared at the apartment.

"Ladies and gentlemen, SK Air welcomes you to Shanghai...", the announcement broke the stillness of the flight.

Jungkook looked around before his eyes lay on Chaeyoung, who was beside him, still sleeping. She seemed not to be aware of the announcement made through the speaker. Jungkook knew that she must have been unable to sleep properly these few days with everything that has been happening in her life.

Carefully, he patted her shoulder to wake her up.

"Chaeyoung, we've arrived...", he said softly as he took the black shades that almost slipped from her lap.

He watched as her eyes slowly opened and she began to look around.

"Here.", he gave the shades back to her.

After that, he took their bags from the overhead compartments and waited for her to leave together.

"Do you think he'll let me see Haneul?", Chaeyoung asked as they were walking to the airport lobby together.

Jungkook did not reply as he kept walking ahead.

"Jungkook?", she called his name but he did not respond. "Jungkook?", she tried again while touching his hand lightly.

He stopped walking and turned to her, "Yes?"

"Are you okay?", she asked and he nodded. "Are you sure? You look bothered by something."

He nodded again, "Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't hear you earlier. Did you say something to me?"

She shook her head before calling his name again, "Jungkook, I told you I'm not mad with you. You don't have to feel guilty or anything towards me. We'll talk about it again after we go back, okay?"

Her words made Jungkook froze, he was indeed still bothered by the thought of his mother's appearance this morning.

"Mr Jeon and Ms Park?", a delicate sweet voice of a young lady interrupted them.

Both of them turned to the voice of the lady who was smiling to them.

"I'm Kim Jisoo, Min Yoongi's friend who's been helping with Park Haneul's case.", Jisoo said while holding out her hand to them.

"Oh, it's you. Right, Yoongi hyung mentioned your name.", Jungkook shook hands with her before he introduced her to Chaeyoung.

"Hi, Ms Park.", Jisoo said to the taller young lady in front of her.

Chaeyoung took off her shades and smiled back to Jisoo, "Hi, Ms Kim. I'm glad I finally got to see you by myself. You've been helping me a lot. Thank you." She proceeded to hug Jisoo warmly as a gratitude.

"No worries, Ms Park.", Jisoo smiled in return before they were interrupted by the noise from Jungkook's phone.

"Excuse me.", he said before stepping away a little from them.

The two women slightly nodded to him before Chaeyoung spoke again.

"Um...Ms Kim, may I know how far is Chanyeol's company from here? Can we go there today and meet him?", she asked Jisoo.
