"Jungkook, I'm done.", Chaeyoung said as she watched him with the dogs in the living room.
He turned around and looked at her, "All packed up?"
She nodded as she looked at her suitcase. She had come back to Crista Haven with Jungkook to pack her clothes as she went to Lisa's place without enough spares. She also needed to prepare for a flight to China to see her child soon.
"Okay, then. Hank is ready too. Let's go?", Jungkook asked her.
She smiled, "Yeah. Let's go."
Jungkook led the way to the front door and opened it for her, "After you."
"Thank you.", she said as she walked out with her wheeled suitcase beside her.
"Oh, let me help with that.", Jungkook said as he tried to take the suitcase while walking out of Chaeyoung's apartment.
"No, it's okay, Jungkook-"
"Jeon Jungkook?", the voice came from the elevator direction made both of them turn to see who it is.
"Mom?", Jungkook said as quiet a possible, it was barely audible.
"Mom?", Chaeyoung turned to him.
The sounds of heels got louder as the two of them went silent in the unexpected situation. Jungkook was not blinking even once as he watched his mother and her two companions behind her. Chaeyoung, on the other hand, was unsure where to look as she slowly looked eye to eye with the woman approaching them.
"Hi, my dearest son.", the woman in mid-forties greeted with a big smile as she stopped in front of him.
"M- Mom, what are you doing here?", Jungkook stuttered.
His mother giggled, "Can't I visit my own son? Did I...interrupt something, Jungkook?"
"N- no.."
"Ma'am?", the man stood behind his mother spoke before he whispered to her ear.
His mother turned and looked at the apartment unit number, "Jungkook?"
"Yes, mom."
"My bodyguard said you came out from this unit. Yours is next to this. I did interrupt something, did I?", his mother said, looking apologetically at him.
"Uh, mom. It's not-"
"Now that I observe her more, she looks familiar.", his mother turned to Chaeyoung with a scrutinising look.
Jungkook shook his head, "No, mom. She's not like-"
"Is she your girlfriend?", his mother cut him as she pointed to Chaeyoung.
Her question made both Jungkook and Chaeyoung shock. The two young people slowly looked at each other before they flinched at Jungkook's mother's chuckle.
"Of course you are, right? It seems like I'm interrupting your little getaway plan. Look at your suitcase and your adorable pets down here.", his mother said as she got down to greet Hank and Bam.
Jungkook slowly nodded before he smiled, "Well...mom, you should've called me before coming here. I'm sorry I-"
"What's your name, dear?", his mother got up and asked Chaeyoung.
"Um..."
"Chaeyoung. Park Chaeyoung, she's..my girlfriend, hm.", Jungkook answered. "Chae, this is my mother, Jeon Haesun.", he introduced the ladies.
Chaeyoung quickly bowed down to her, "Hi, Mrs Jeon."
"Hi, Chaeyoung.", his mother replied. "She's beautiful.", she mouthed to Jungkook before Chaeyoung stopped bowing.
"Um, anyway, mom. Why are you here again?", Jungkook asked, he was wishing to leave as soon as possible from there.
His mother clapped her hand, she just remembered the reason she was there to see him.
"Actually, I have something to discuss with you, son. It's about our hotel and your cafe.", she told him.
"Oh...what about...the hotel and my cafe?", Jungkook asked.
His mother smiled before shaking her head, "I think it's better if we talk about this matter another time. Maybe we can set a dinner together at the manor. What do you think?"
Jungkook slowly nodded as he tried to look at Chaeyoung, hoping that she did not feel like being in an awkward position at the moment.
"Well, we can do that.", he said.
"Right? Anyway, Chaeyoung, I hope you don't feel left out. It's just...it's a family business and something confidential to discuss so-"
"Mom, it's okay. She doesn't mind. Right, Chae?", Jungkook tried to get Chaeyoung to be in agreement with him.
Chaeyoung nodded with a small smile, "Yeah, it's okay. I don't mind. It's...family matter- business, I understand."
"Good. Oh, by the way, if you want to have dinner with us another time, I'm all up for it.", his mother said to Chaeyoung.
"Yeah, sure.", Chaeyoung replied.
"Well, okay, then. Son, please text me when you're free. Me and your dad are waiting for you, okay?", Jungkook's mother patted his shoulders as she spoke.
Jungkook nodded in return, "I will."
After his mother said goodbye and walked back to the elevator, he let out a silent sigh as he watched her leaving.
"Jungkook, what just happened?", the question from Chaeyoung made him turn to see her.
He looked at her with guilt, "Chaeyoung, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that you're my girlfriend-"
"It's not that. I mean...not just that. It's the whole thing about...your hotel and your cafe? Family business?", Chaeyoung said to him.
Jungkook nodded slowly, "The things I didn't tell you about me."
She nodded along before asking, "Who are you exactly?"
He gulped at the question.
"I've told you almost everything about me, Jungkook. Maybe it's time you do the same.", she told him.
"Are you...are you mad at me?", Jungkook asked.
"Tell me who you really are. By the way your mom came here with her bodyguards and the conversation I heard, you don't seem to be just a great chef and cafe owner I know.", Chaeyoung replied, she sounded disappointed with him.
He nodded in defeat but found it hard to admit.
"I'm not mad at you, Jungkook. I just...want you to be open with me. Like how I am with you.", Chaeyoung said, her face softened as she looked at him having tears pooled in his eyes.
"I'm sorry..", his voice was barely heard.
As he tried to continue, his phone rang to save him from the situation.
