Chapter Sixteen
Frisk walked alone, the gravel of Waterfall crunching underneath their brown boots. With each minute passing, their anxiety grew. They didn't know what to do. It had officially been three weeks since M/n had been stuck with Nightmare.
Frisk hadn't gone any further. They'd been stuck in snowdin. They sat down in a patch of echo flowers and stared down. The small child pulled up both their's and their brother's connected health systems.
* Frisk - LVL. One
* Full HP.
* DETERMINATION.
* M/n - LVL. One
* 3/20 HP
* SOUL TRAIT UNKNOWN.
Frisk frowned at their brother's health stats. They wondered what was happening to M/n. The health systems faded, and in a moment of deep concentration, they pulled up another asset.
* RESET
"Don't you dare, ya little shit." Sans' voice called out from beside them, uncharacteristically angry. "Not again."
"I'm not doing it to get on your nerves, Sans." They signed, looking up at the skeleton, hands a blur.
"You really expect me ta believe that?" He asked, eyesockets going dark as he sat next to the human. "After all the shit ya pulled in the past-"
Frisk frowned. "I don't know what else to do, Sans. It's been three weeks, I don't know what to do."
Sans struggled to process what the kid was saying, their hands moving too quickly. "We're gonna find him-"
"We shouldve already found him! He's not okay. He's my brother!" The usually collected human stood abruptly, hands shaking. "There's no use in me being DETERMINED without my brother! I- I need him, Sans- YOU of all people should-"
Sans pushed Frisk's hands down, stopping them from signing. "Stop it, kid. Don't bring up Papyrus. 'Sides, you have no idea what reseting could do- it might get rid of him completely. This is the millionth time you've fallen down, and this is the first M/n has ever been with you."
Angry tears threaten to fall from Frisk's eyes. They shove Sans, their face reddening a bit. "You have no right at all to tell me that. You know DAMN well if you were in my position you'd do this to bring your brother back."
* RESET?
Frisk touched the asset.
* ARE YOU SURE YOU WISH TO RESET?
They frantically touched the glowing button again.
......
M/n had helped a great deal in healing Cross' wounds. The two hadn't gotten to bed until around 12:30, Cross resorting to letting M/n sleep in his room with him due to the couch not being very comfortable.
They fell asleep in a similar position as they had on the couch. By the time Cross had woken, he was alone in bed. There was a small pain in his bones, but all of his injures-and bandages had gone. He had his jacket back.
Cross had no recollection of why there was an extra pillow aside from his own. "Ugh. What the hell happened last night...?"
.....
Frisk woke up on a patch of golden flowers. No M/n in sight.
* RESET?
With their SOUL hammering in their chest, they pressed the button for a second time.
*ARE YOU SURE YOU WISH TO RESET?
"Well, well, well, lookit what we have here!" An all too cheery voice resonated. "You were doing so well before! Finally caved in to it again, I see?"
Frisk glared at the the golden flower. "Flowey, it's not what you think. I didn't cave in, I dont know what else to do-"
"I don't say this often, but you really should have listened to that smiley trash bag. Who knows what happened to your precious brother?" The flower continued, "Really, honestly, you should just continue by yourself. That ugly piece of work really was just a waste of your time and slowed you down."
"M/n is my brother, and he's not ugly!"
"Mhmmm... you seem to care so much.. but look at the aftermath of your decision! Where is he? Not down here. Not with you. He's nowhere to be seen, hehehe!~"
Frisk glared at him.
"You really are such an idiot, Frisk."
Not wanting to listen to anymore of the plant's insults, they nearly punched the asset. They once again were alone on the bed of golden flowers. Once more, twice more, than a third time more.
Taking a deep, uncertain breath, they focused on the singular reason why they were relentless with resetting. M/n. Their brother. The one that had always taken care of them. Their family. As Frisk looked back on everything the two of them had been through, their soul started feeling stronger within their chest. Their DETERMINATION grew.
* RESET?
* ARE YOU SURE YOU WISH TO RESET?
"....isk..... Fri....."
"FRISK! PLEASE, PLEASE WAKE UP!"
The small child jolted, gasping loudly. M/n was hunched over them, tears falling from his wide eyes. There was nothing but pure, unfiltered worry on his face. He had been terrified that the fall the two endured had killed them.
"Frisk! Oh my god, you're alive!" M/n pulled them into a tight hug, sobbing into their brown hair. "You scared the ever loving shit outta me!"
It worked, Frisk thought. Tears spilled from their eyes aswell, the doubt they previously had making them feel nauseous for a moment.
"Don't cry, I'm okay. Are you okay?"
"I'm okay." M/n nodded, wiping the tears away.
Frisk had taken notice to M/n's torn shirt. There were bloodied bandages underneath, wrapped around his torso. M/n looked like shit.
"If you say so."
