Chapter Eighteen
M/n laid across the couch, an ice pack on his forehead. He had come down with a fever suddenly, and he only managed to eat a third of the soup Sans had made him.
Frisk sat on the floor in front of the couch, by their brother's side at all times, just in case. Sans was in the bathroom, looking for a bottle of Tylenol to give M/n, hoping that it would help bring the fever down. Sans knew a lot about humans, but he still wasn't very knowledgeable about their immune systems and what helped when they got sick.
M/n's SOUL ached in his chest. The orange glow had faded mostly. His torso cramped with almost every breath he took.
"Uggghh....."
There was a faint clinking approaching the front door. Metal against metal. Then, a fish woman clad in grey armor burst through. M/n curled up in a ball, his hands immediately clamping over his ears.
"NGAHHHH!! WHO'S THIS PUNK?!"
Frisk jumped up to greet the woman, waving their arms frantically, trying to get her to quiet down. "He's sick! Don't be so loud, please!"
Sans rushed down the stairs, he had finally located the Tylenol. He was a little worried about Undyne trying to fight M/n. The fish woman had barely tolerated Frisk, even though she had labeled the kid her 'bestie.'
"Heya, Undyne." Sans greeted, walking to M/n, handing him two of the pills. "wassup?"
"Who's the punk? Papyrus told me that he made a second human friend." Undyne's gaze was stone-cold. "If Asgore gets word that I haven't brought their SOULS to him, I might get fired."
Sans frowns. "Yeah, i know. M'sorry about this. Me and paps know ya love yer job but y'know."
Sans helps M/n sit up, so he can take the pills and have a sip of water. He takes the ice pack and asks Frisk to go get a new one. They nod and do as told, leaving the older three alone.
"Heheheeee, y'loook awesome ass hellll." M/n's words slurred together as he looked at Undyne, his fever making him woozy.
Undyne had to fight a toothy grin. She loved it when people admired her, but this was a human. She had to keep him in line, in fear of losing her job.
"Thanks, punk." Undyne smiled anyway, flexing her arms underneath her armor.
M/n smiled brightly at the fish woman, trying to fight Sans as he made him take the Tylenol. M/n gagged once he got the painkiller down.
"Sorry, kid. But ya gotta take it if ya want to get better."
"Ughh, just let me dieee...." M/n groaned, falling back onto the couch, wincing at the pounding in his head.
Sans' eyesockets darkened a little. "That ain't funny."
"What's with him?" Undyne asked. "I mean, I get he's sick but what's with the helplessness?"
Frisk came back, placing the fresh ice pack over their older brother's forehead.
"Dunno," Sans shrugged. "He took quite a few hits when he fell down, and he's a big banged up. Now he's got a fever."
"Huh."
Frisk tugged at Undyne's hand.
"Whaddya want, lil punk?"
"when M/n feels better, can you maybe train him?"
Undyne thought for a minute. "Ya mean toughen the soft lump up? Hell yeah, i can! Besides, it'll help me make sure he stays in line."
Frisk beamed up at the fish woman. "thank you, Undyne!"
Undyne ruffled Frisk's hair. "Anytime, kid."
...
*You eat the Nice Cream.
* HP fully restored!
M/n groaned, pulling his hair away from his face. "Undyne, come onnn! We've been at this for like six hours!"
Undyne laughed, crossing her arms over her chest. "Damn, you're almost as lazy as Sans! It hasn't even been thirty minutes!"
M/n cursed aloud, Bracing himself for another one of Undyne's magic attacks. Undyne grinned at him.
"Hey! Why don't ya take this?" She said, throwing a spear to him.
Undyne laughed at the man when he shrunk back, shaking her head. "Punk! Try to use that."
M/n grunted and hesitantly picked the green spear up out of the snow. He stared at it. He knew it was magic, the slight glow emitting from it warming the palm of his hands up.
"How?" He asked, his voice soft, trying not to sound ungrateful for Undyne's kindness, even though he didn't know what he was supposed to do with the spear.
The fish woman gave him a blank stare. "D'ya not know how to use a spear?"
M/n shook his head, slowly twirling the weapon around in his hands. Undyne rolled her shoulders and huffed.
"Okay. So... it's like this," Undyne started out, summoning another spear of her own, this time blue. "Yer holding it wrong. Ya gotta hold it like this, so you don't hurt yourself."
M/n watched as Undyne adjusted her grip on the spear. One hand was six inches below the blade, far enough to be sure of, even with a slip up, she wouldn't cut herself. Her other hand was a quarter of the way from the center of the spear to the blunt end. M/n copied the positioning of her hands. The spear felt more comfortable, to say the least. Easier to hold.
Undyne grinned. "Yeah, like that!"
* Appreciative of Undyne teaching you basic defense, you smile brightly at the woman.
* Seeing her return your smile fills you with KINDNESS.
"Yeahhh, punk! Ya got the hang of it!" Undyne shouted at M/n, her sharp teeth bared with a grin. "Let's speed things up a bit, yeah?!"
The woman sends another, quicker magic attack towards the human. The first two spears try to catch him off guard, but he manages to deflect them with the spear of his own. The next attack was yellow, M/n had recalled that those ones flipped to the opposite direction to attack. He spun around, getting a little too confident. M/n used his spear as a baseball bat, knocking the yellow attack 'out of the park.' He laughed loudly.
That was his mistake. Thinking Undyne's turn was over, M/n didn't turn around.
"PUNK! TURN AROUND!-"
Too late.
"Ghhck!-"
.......
* Two for two.
* Wake up, M/n! Your story isn't over, yet.
* Stay KIND!
"Umnhhhjfhh...." M/n groaned loudly, thrashing his arms and legs angrily like a toddler.
"Aw, shit, kid, I'm sorry." Undyne's voice rang in his ears. "That attack was too much for you."
M/n sat up, feeling the cold of the snow between his fingers. "Wha happened...?"
"I knocked ya upside the head." Undyne frowned. "Ya were unconscious for like... an hour. I thought ya died."
"It sure feels like I did." M/n grunted. "You got one hell of a way to keep me in line, Undyne."
The fish woman sat on the ground beside M/n, frowning still. "That wasn't funny. It was an irresponsible turn I took. As captain of the Royal Guard, I'm ashamed. Training is done for the day."
