Chapter 24: Who is Dark Matter really?

"Kate, do you remember the last time that Rex has contacted you? At least a month ago?"

"Uh, yeah, kind of, why do you ask? Is he alright?"

I'm still afraid of telling her who Rex really is. That dirty liar.

"So, there is no Joe or Elizabeth." I begin to say.

"I know that already." She replies. How does she know already?

"How do you know already?" I ask her.

"The reasons not important. Please continue." She answers. If she can't tell me how she knows, then it must be really bad. But there's no time to go digging into nothing. Must tell her the news. Even though it will break her heart.

"Anyways, the real threat is this dude called Dark Matter."

"I know that too." She answers again.

"How much more do you know?" I ask her.

"That's all." She says. She's lying. Again, no time to question.

"Anyways, that man, Dark Matter." I begin to say.

"How do you know it's a 'he' Mike?"

"Because I know who it is. And you know him too."

"No I don't. I would know if it's him."

"Well then, to prove my point, did he happen to call you by your nickname that only one person calls you: 'Anderson' perhaps?"

Silence is my answer. She knows now.

"That means that...that it...that that person...is..." She's barely able to say that much. So I answer for her.

"Yes Kate. Dark Matter is the person that is our friend. Was our friend. Dark Matter is..."

Apparently I too can't even finish my own sentences. But then again finding out your friend is trying to kill you and take over the world is still a lot to take in.

"Dark Matter is Rex."
