Chapter 13: Transition in evidence

"So Tommy," Rex begins to talk. "Whatcha find."

"Well, I overheard a conversation and took some notes. Here, I'll show you." And with that, Tommy turns on the hologram device on his wrist and Rex's image slowly adjusting to the pixel blue figure. "Do you see the notepad?" he asks him.

"Yeah, yeah I see it Tommy. Only 3 things?"

"It was a short conversation!"

"Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, I get to already."

I just stood their, watching the little conversation going on right in front of my face, and I didn't even bother to step in. Not once! Now, here's my chance.

"What about the thing y were going to show us? Good ol' Rexy boy!" I say. I know, I know, it's lame, but at least I'm not just some mummy standing around.

"Yes, yes I did. We think we found who else Jack is working with. It's a girl, an oddly enough her name is close to the name Jack."

"Really?" I ask, wondering who this girl could be. "Who?"

"Her name is Jackie. And I think her last name is-"

"Simpler." I say, starting to piece the puzzle together. "Jackie Simpler."

"Yes, that's right, Agent Anderson. How did you know, May I ask?"

"She's my roommate. She's been asking people to call her Jack."

"Oh my. Looks like we've found one of them. Make sure you don't confront them just yet, but keep observing closely. Any tiny little detail could put the mission in jeopardy."

"Okay Rexaroo. Whatever you say."

"Never again call me Rexaroo, Anderson."

"Whatever you say, boss." Tommy chirps in. "Bye bye." We say together, then turn off the hologram.

"So. That, was, interesting I suppose?"

"Yeah."

Damn. The person we're trying to stop is my roommate.

Damn.

"Hey, relax Kate, you're going to be fine. Just. Fine."

"I know, it's just that I don't know anything anymore."

"You will in time."

I hope so Tommy.

I really, really hope so.
