The sound of the toilet flushing echoed just as Hyorin opened the door to Mingyu's room—where Seungkwan had been staying, after knocking and getting no response.
"Seungkwan, are you here, dear?" she called out.
"M-Momma..." Seungkwan answered weakly. Thankfully, the bathroom's echo helped carry his voice. "Here..." he added, right before another round of throwing up filled the air.
It was another morning of relentless sickness torturing Seungkwan.
Without wasting a second, Hyorin rushed to the nightstand and poured some water into a glass for her son-in-law, her heart aching at the sound of him emptying his stomach.
"I'm coming... I'm coming..." Hyorin called out to reassure him as she hurried to the bathroom. When she got there, she found Seungkwan sitting exhaustedly on the bathroom floor, legs stretched out, flushing the toilet again with trembling hands.
"Poor baby... here, drink this first, Kwannie," Hyorin said worriedly, offering him the glass. Seungkwan eagerly drank it down when she helped him.
"Thank you, Momma. I'm sorry for troubling you again..." Seungkwan murmured, his voice full of guilt.
"Don't say that. You're never a bother to me—especially when it's my son's fault you're like this," Hyorin replied playfully, making Seungkwan giggle softly.
"Feeling better now?" she asked, stroking his hair gently. Seungkwan nodded.
"What do you want for breakfast?"
Seungkwan pouted, shaking his head, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I want Mingyu..."
Hyorin couldn't help but smile fondly and reached out to pinch his cheek lightly. "Silly boy... He'll be back tomorrow. But for now, you need to eat so you'll have strength to see him—and it's for the babies too, sweetheart."
Seungkwan gently stroked his baby bump, a soft, tender smile on his lips. "For the babies," he murmured with a nod. "I just want some almonds and avocado, Momma... with honey on top. And a cup of hot chocolate milk," he added shyly.
"Of course, of course..." Hyorin giggled at the peculiar combination he craved. "Anything you want. Now come on, don't sit too long on this cold floor," she urged, her voice warm and caring.
Seungkwan smiled back at her and carefully pushed himself up, Hyorin reaching out to steady him as he rose.
"Thank you, Momma... You're the best mother-in-law anyone could ever ask for," Seungkwan said sweetly, making Hyorin's heart swell with affection.
"Ah... Maybe not for everyone," Hyorin muttered under her breath, briefly thinking of her son's ex-husband. But the words never reached Seungkwan's ears, and she quickly brushed the thought aside with a sigh.
They had barely taken a few steps toward the door when Seungkwan suddenly stopped, clutching his stomach with a strained expression.
"Wait—Momma... one more time—" he gasped, before rushing back to the toilet bowl, retching again.
