During karate lessons the next day, Maddie and I are half asleep, and we're acting like zombies. I'm surprised we're still doing karate correctly, but tiredly.

"Really, what's gotten into you two today?" Katrina frowns. Maddie and I stop practicing the kick we were learning, and we turn around to face Katrina.

"We were on patrol yesterday-" starts Maddie.

"-we were patrolling our neighbourhoods last night-" I continue.

"-because it was Halloween, and we were patrolling late at night-"

"-and we got home late-"

"-and so we slept late!" finishes Maddie.

"Ah. That explains it," says Katrina. "But you two are spies. Which means that you have to be alert and awake at all times, whether you like it or not. This is good training for you!"

Maddie and I continue kicking the hanging pillows while practicing our kicks, while complaining about how tired we are from last night. Maddie also tells me what happened while she was patrolling her neighbourhood with Aunt Alicia.

"Did you see anyone you knew?" I asked curiously.

"Well, I saw a couple of people from my school, but they didn't see me," shrugs Maddie. "Did you see anyone you knew?"

"Yeah, I saw Natasha, her cousins, and her brothers, and a couple of kids from my school," I say. "Natasha almost saw me, though. I got Dad to drive away just in time. And that reminds me, my dad's driving was really dangerous!"

"Again?!" says Maddie, but she's not surprised. Maddie experienced Dad's driving far too many times.

"He was driving with his knees!" I exclaim. "How's that safe?"

"His knees?!" says Maddie, and it's her turn to be surprised now. "His knees? That's dangerous!"

Near the end of class, Katrina tells us to stop practicing, and says that she has some news for us.

"Is it good news or bad news?" asks Maddie eagerly.

"Depends on how you take the news," shrugs Katrina. "What I wanted to say is that you two are going to have a mission or two coming up soon."

"Yes!" Maddie and I exclaim happily. Too happily, actually.

"Your Observation and Body Language classes, your Locks and Codes classes, and Enhanced French classes will be done in a few weeks," explains Katrina. "You two will be given a mission so you can test out your observation skills. For the Locks and Codes test, you'll be given some locks and codes to crack, and you need to crack them as quickly as possible."

"What about our Enhanced French test?" pipes up Maddie.

"Your French tutors will ask you some questions in French, you reply in both English and French," answers Katrina. "You'll also have to complete a short written test, and your tutors will also have a mock conversation with you."

"But what about our other classes?" I ask curiously. "Are we going to get tested on what we learned from those classes as well?"

"You're not finished with those classes, so no," says Katrina. "By the way, you also have another round of Enhanced French classes after you're finished your Enhanced French test."

More French? No thank you.

But Maddie and I don't have a choice (unfortunately), so we let out loud groans.

Maddie and I walk back to the foyer of the agency headquarters, and wait for our parents to pick us up. Ten minutes later, we see Dad and Uncle Hector. Turns out that they were being given a new mission by Deputy Chief Abigail Adelstein.
