During the bus ride home on Monday, Norma and I talk about what movies we'd like to watch together with Natasha.
(In case you're wondering why Natasha's not with us, she takes another bus home.)
"Yeah, that movie would be cool!" I say in reply to Norma's question. I suddenly remember: Mom's teaching Spanish classes tonight! *cue loud cheering*
"Stef? Hello?" says Norma, trying to get my attention.
"Sorry, I remembered that my mom's teaching Spanish classes, so it's just my dad, Ryan, and I that are home tonight," I say hastily.
"Your mom speaks Spanish?" frowns Norma. "So are you...part Spanish?"
"I don't have any Spanish ancestry, all my ancestors are from Britain," I answer. "My mom learned Spanish as a...uh...hobby." Mom actually learned Spanish at the agency headquarters, since they offered Spanish classes there.
"Well, that's great for the three of you!" beams Norma. "So are you guys going to throw a party while your mom's not in the house?"
"Thank you," I say suddenly. "for giving me an idea!"
"Oh no," groans Norma. I think she knows what to expect tomorrow morning.

"Bye Mom!" Ryan and I say to Mom, as she heads out of the house at 6:30pm to teach Spanish, carrying a book bag and her purse.
"Goodbye, Sabrina!" Dad says to Mom.
"Bye!" Mom calls to us, and locks the front door and storm door. Ryan, Dad, and I turn to look at each other.
"LET'S HAVE A DANCE PARTY!" I shriek excitedly, remembering the idea that Norma gave me. "Ryan, are you up for a dance party in the basement?"
"YEAH!" Ryan screams excitedly. Ryan turns to Dad, who's grinning. "Dad, you wanna join?"
"I'll join later, I just have to finish my dinner," Dad says cheerily. "Man, you two kids really eat quickly you make me look like I take my time with dinner."
"Ryan, go to the basement," I direct. "I'm going to get my laptop."
I dash up to my room to get my laptop, and I sprint as fast as I can without tripping to the basement. Ryan's sitting on a nearby sofa, and he's bouncing up and down excitedly.
"What are we going to do about the music?" asks Ryan.
"I got that covered," I reply, as I search for my dance music playlist on my laptop.
I open the dance music playlist, turn up the volume on my laptop, and plug my laptop in to some speakers. As the music blares loudly from the speakers, Ryan and I start dancing like there's tomorrow like maniacs. Well, Ryan's dancing like a maniac.
Just then, Dad appears at the basement door, and I suddenly get another idea.
"Perfect timing, Dad! You showed up at the perfect time!" I exclaim. "Can you get us some food?"
"But Mom said you can't eat anywhere else other than the kitchen. Or the family room," Dad points out.
"Who cares?! Mom's not here!" I say carelessly, waving a hand.
"Good point!" Dad exclaims. He runs out of sight, and runs back, carrying a bag of chips and a pack of cookies. Ryan and I jump up and down excitedly when we see what he's carrying. We start eating away, making a mess, and we continue having our dance party, with Dad joining in.
