8 Lives Chapter 27- Taking Another Turn
Edward's POV
"It's been a while," Kayla sashayed her way towards me. Her golden eyes twinkling with fondness and her mind that only cherished the memories we had.
Her blonde ringlets shaped her face, giving an even more prominent feature to her eyes that were like golden pools that reeled me in. Her lips spread into an open smile, as her teeth shimmered from the light rays that the sun brought upon us.
She opened her petite arms and wrapped them around my frame. I had not realized how much I actually needed that hug. With my life breaking off its last thread, a hug was the only thing that I needed. A hug contained comfort, and a smudge of hope. Hope that things will return back, but after all that happened I don't believe that there is a going back.
I wrapped my arms around her, and bent my head down- burying my head in her blonde ringlets. The smell of flowers floated around me: lilies and a light lotus smell, almost as if it were a pinch from fingertips giving a single dose for it not to be overwhelming.
"It has been, what brings you here?" Even though her presence gave me a warm feeling- almost as warm as the love that used to fill my un-beating heart- I was mildly curious as to what brought her here. It's been nearly fifty years, and seeing her back was a trip down memory lane.
"I felt that you were upset, and were going though a rough patch," she smiled her gallant smile and the corners of her lips turned upward. My face twisted in confusion when she said she "felt" my emotional stress that built on me- taking its toll. I'm surprised I have not began dragging my legs through the house yet.
"What do you mean by felt?" I asked. She leaned away from me and looked at my face, almost as if she were analyzing my features.
"It's my capability," she replied slowly. Almost as if she were talking to a five year and not a person that was a century old.
"What is it exactly? You seemed to have known most of my life- almost as if you were lurking in the shadows." I replied. She knew that I was going through a rough time, yet in order for that assumption she had to have seen the damage that has been done in my life.
"Why don't you come to my-"
The front door of the house opened, and I saw Alice's figure. Her hand pressed on the doorknob as she pushed it aside. Her eyes narrowed from me to Kayla. Her mind was muddy, and thoughts that formed were irrelevant to our current situation.
Alice's lips turned upward, and her teeth shimmered against the sunlight. But I felt that I was missing something behind that hidden smile. Her thoughts wouldn't give her away, but her smile made me feel that I should already know something or be cautioned by something.
"Why don't you come inside and meet the rest of us?" Alice asked. Her eyes twinkling with something that would be assumed, from afar, as excitement, but there was something hidden, confined, beneath her sparkling eyes.
"Oh well, I actually only came to see Edward. And I don't know any of you, so I should be going." Kayla rushed through her sentences. I turned towards her and grabbed her elbow as I saw that she was about to leave.
I have already lost so much, and her being here made me feel some contentment. I have not felt satisfied from the moment Bella claimed to have no remembrance of me. Kayla's appearance gave me some type of hope that I did not know I was looking for.
