badwolfxoncomingstorm: AU RomCom Prompt: the Doctor and Rose are best friends and one of them is getting married while the other pretends that they aren't in love with them. It turns out that groom/bride (the one the best friend is marrying) is only interested in their fiancé/fiancée's wealth/connections, but the best friend doesn't believe it and won't listen to reason. Eventually, the tension between the two best friends becomes too great and they part ways right before the wedding. Flash forward 5 years and the two run into each other at a party and try to pretend that they are happy with their current lives, but it's difficult to hide the fact that they missed each other so much.

I didn't want to do ANOTHER AU so this one is still in the Doctor Who realm. Therefore, that last bit doesn't happen but I have another ending in mind.

The first stop after the Doctor and Rose took off for the first time after his regeneration was a planet called Avalon. Rose was still a tad skeptical about the Doctor, but more comfortable than she was before spending Christmas with him. The planet they were on was gorgeous. There were actual dragons flying about. Human colonists walked among ten-foot tall blue people and blue blobs that rolled instead of walked. The sky was more pinkish while the grass was a deep, dark green, making it look more lush than earthly possible. Three of the six moons were visible at the time, lighting up the evening.

"Here we are," the Doctor said, stepping out of the TARDIS. He turned around to see Rose step put behind him. "The bigger, better Earth."

"What is this, then? Earth 2.0?" Rose asked. The Doctor put his hands in the pockets of his trench coat.

"Avalon. Sort of like a new Earth. Sort of. Not really. At this point in time, the actual Earth is still up and running."

"When are we?"

"Um, I'd say about three centuries before the Earth's death. Yeah, sounds about right," the Doctor said, looking around. Everyone seemed so festive. Children ran around with sparklers and street dancers juggled flaming batons and people dressed in colorful clothing were all over the main street.

"Is there a celebration going on?" Rose asked.

"Ah! We must be just in time for the engagement party! How about that?" the Doctor exclaimed. Rose laughed.

"Well, who's engaged then?"

"That's just it. No one knows. It happens whenever someone in the community turns twenty-one. Everyone here has sort of telepathic abilities, so they know who they want and they choose that person on the night of their engagement party. It's a neat idea, really. Both have these telepathic abilities, so they know what they're getting into, and they can back out at any time. Most people don't, considering they can't get married to someone after they've been chosen."

"Oh, really?"

"Really. Look, here's the parade," he says, standing next to her. They stand on the street as the parade passes, enjoying the sights of clowns and strange animals and the trained dragons. The final thing in the colorful march was a huge, colorfully decorated float with a woman sitting on a throne, smiling happily.

She was searching the crowd, obviously. Then, her eyes landed on the Doctor. They locked eyes and she smiled knowingly. The Doctor, completely oblivious, smiled back. The woman pulled a lever next to her, bringing the float to a halt. As she walked down, fireworks went off and confetti rained down on the crowd. The cheers were deafening. The woman walked across the pavement and right up to the Doctor, who was just realizing what was going on. She kissed him.

Rose's jaw dropped.

"Well," the Doctor said when she pulled away. "I accept!"

The cheers continued and Rose just stared at the Doctor in shock. He looked back at her, smiling giddily as the woman slipped a ring over his finger. He never was too great at telling when she was definitely not okay with something. The parade went on, but the woman stayed with the Doctor. Everyone seemed to stop caring about it after that, moving on to carry on with the rest of their lives. Occasionally, someone would stop to congratulate the two. Besides that, it was over.
