I have not updated this piece of shit for over six years, so I owe you all who actually read (if any of you did) this an apology.
Yeah, no. This book is over because my love for RWBY died years ago, and I cannot bring myself to rewatch the show to continue writing this; however, I did have ideas for this book and the characters that I wanted to explore.
So if any of you want to adopt/adapt this in your own way, with your own talent, please feel free to do so and please let me know! I'd love to read your takes and admire your personal changes.
I am writing this without my notepad of plans open because, as of today, it has been deleted so this is mostly from memory.
Most of my plans for this book were based around the Faunus and their in universe plight of racism, slavery and how that would blossom in characters outside of the main four, because at the end of the day that WAS my goal: to explore characters and what we knew of them outside of the main four girls, team CFVY being the group I wanted to focus on to begin with.
My original ideas for writing Red as a character started out as a multi-layered joke; obvious sticking to the color theming of RWBY's naming system, I also decided to name the character red because when put with his sister, Velvet, the pair made "Red Velvet".
Velvet was the older sister, so she would be wiser and more mature- therefore, at least in my mind, a darker shade of red; velvet, if you would.
There were also plans I had to reveal about the main semblance for Red. I described it as a "blink" akin to Tracers teleport from Overwatch originally, but that was not the case I had in mind when writing, I wanted to reveal through the story that it was more of a swap similar to Sasuke's rinnegan, working on sight and mental images.
It would have brought out some fun combat interactions using the dexterous fighting style I had in mind swapping with heavier characters like Nora or Yang- yet I never got around to writing such chapters or interactions.
I had also planned for after the fall of Beacon for the main character to NOT meet up with the main four until the start of the Atlas arc, giving myself more time to explore what characters like Glynda Goodwitch, Professor Port and Ooblek were doing to repair the once great school outside of a single flashback, to give the chance for Red to learn outside of fighting and creative ways to use his semblance and its inner workings.
If I'm going to be honest, if I were to rewrite this at all, I would erase the romance I had planned initially and re-word a shit load of poorly worded things; as much as I loved the snippets of Coco's character we received through the show and the music, there's not enough there for me to write anything substantial.
Nor do I care enough to try anymore.
I'm sure the book does wonders for her character and CrossHare as a ship, but I do not love RWBY enough to justify that purchase.
That's to say, to those who read this, I am sorry that it'll be left unfinished.
However, if you DO want this to continue in your own stories or adaptations, then here are the important points I wanted to hit for the character growth (You obviously don't have to if you adopt this):
*The blink being revealed as a swapping ability.
*The ability can be done through mental imagery but is slower that through sight lines, making direct eye contact more effective and preferred.
*The ability having a weakness; that being sore eyes and the need to blink more after constant use to slow down constant swapping. Power is only interesting if it has a weakness.
*The main character does NOT impact the main plot heavily, he CANNOT solo characters like Hazel or Mercury no matter how "cool" it would be. He is, if anything, a swift support fighter.
*The main character NEEDS time away from the main cast to grow to make them unique, not just a spare part hanging around the girls for plot. Give them something to do outside of beating Salem and finding the relics.
This next point is for those that do wish to make this their own:
*Have fun. Make it enjoyable, not for the people reading it, but for yourself. If you enjoy your own work than someone else will too.
I hope that you had fun reading the parts of this I did write and publish, and once again, I am sorry that I won't be able to finish this myself.
-Kind regards and best of wishes,
LadyLabrys.
