Colors {Stollace} ✦ Chapter One ✦ I'm Incomplete
"So many bright lights, they cast a shadow. But can I speak? Well is it hard understanding I'm incomplete?" My Chemical Romance ✦ Famous Last Words
✦ Will ✦
Will Solace could stand for hours staring outside of his bedroom window at night, watching the blue city lights and the cars pass by. New York was always busy; no matter the time of day, and he absolutely loved it. He loved people watching, he loved seeing the cars zoom by and watching the headlights disappear into the black abyss where the city light didn't reach anymore. This was home to him. He felt safe here, felt like the monsters he made up in his own head couldn't get him.
Too late did he realize it was already four o'clock in the morning and the sun was beginning to rise. He loved watching sunrises, because it resembled a new day; everything bad that happened yesterday has settled and now, a new hope rises. He gave a small smile and stared as the sun rose behind a building, illuminating the space around it; giving it a sort of glow that you could only see if you really paid attention.
A knock at Will's door startled him out of his thoughts and he let out a soft, "Come in." He turned around to see his dad walk in, already ready for the day.
"Oh, you're already up. Good morning." Will smiled feebly and looked outside the window again. The sun hadn't moved and probably wouldn't before he got to school. "Go ahead and get ready, breakfast is almost done." Will thanked him and his father left, shutting the door quietly.
The apartment they lived in was small; two bedrooms, two bathrooms. It had a small kitchen and dining area, as well as a living room. Will went through his closet and pulled out a sky blue t-shirt and some khaki shorts, slipping them on and running a hand through his shaggy, curly blonde hair.
He looked into the mirror in his bathroom and sighed, noting once again how much he looked like his father. They had the same curly golden hair, the same sky blue eyes, surfer body, wide eyes, and athletic build. Was there even anything about him that wasn't just like his dad? One day, he hoped to find it, so that the girls at school who had a crush on his dad would stop asking him out. Oh, look, another thing similar to his father; they both like guys.
Will sighed and glared at his reflection in the mirror. He didn't hate looking like his father; he hated how people treated him because of it. A knock on the bathroom door once again startled Will out of his thoughts.
"Breakfast is done," he father said in a soft-spoken voice. Will was extremely soft-spoken.
Jesus.
"Okay," he murmured and piled his bracelets over the bandage he always kept wrapped around his wrist. He liked the braided string bracelets, and had too many to count. He also liked the cute little beaded ones his little sister Kayla used to make him, and wore them whenever he could. Kayla was the only one of his siblings that actually liked him. Michael, Lee and Austin never paid any attention to him, and when they were separated from Will, they didn't complain. They never called or wrote or anything, so Will decided to forget about them.
He walked out of the bathroom and to the dining room, where a plate of eggs, bacon and cinnamon toast were arranged the perfect distance away from each other so they wouldn't mix. Will hated when his food mixed. His father sat across from him, a plate with the same things (and placed the exact same way as Will's) in front of him.
"So, did you sleep well last night?" Apollo asked, eating a slice of bacon at the same exact time Will did.
"I didn't sleep," Will was always straight forward, yet another thing that was similar between him and his dad.
"Why not?"
"I was looking outside of the window."
"All night?"
"I like watching people," Will shrugged and waited until his dad ate his forkful of eggs before taking a bite.
"You're coming to the infirmary in your free period, right?" Apollo asked and Will nodded, poking at his eggs.
His father was the school nurse, and because Will had been in health classes outside of school from kindergarten to fifth grade, and signed up for the classes during middle school and his freshman year of high school, they allowed him to help his father in the infirmary after completing a series of tests.
In case you couldn't tell, Will wanted to be a doctor. When he was older, he also wanted to run his father's music store, which was the building below their apartment. He finished his breakfast and brushed his pearly white teeth, before grabbing his school bag.
The drive to school was boring. Apollo and Will didn't talk and music was playing softly in the background. Another things his father and he shared; they both had the same taste in music. They liked all kinds of music, but their favorite was alternative rock, so Arctic Monkeys or Cage The Elephant were normally playing. They pulled up to the school grounds in a red Mercedes-Benz, catching the attention of the kids who hung around the doors before they began letting people in. It was roughly 6:45 and the doors didn't open for another hour.
They got out of the car and his dad locked it twice; the way he always did it, and headed to the doors.
"Good morning, Apollo," a girl said, waving and blushing. The students didn't call him Mr. Solace like they should - they called him Apollo and that was that. His father waved and muttered a, "good morning," swiping his teacher ID to open the door. "Good morning, Will," she said softly and he smiled gently.
"Good morning."
She blushed more, before they entered the school building and headed to the infirmary. His father put his bag next to his desk and started his computer. Will sat on one of the chairs and flipped through a book over Health Science, taking notes about things he already knew.
