Colors {Stollace} Chapter Three Smile

"Now I'm wearing this smile that I don't believe in, inside I feel like screaming." Mayday Parade Bruised and Scarred

✦ Will ✦

The bell signaling Will's lunch rang and he sighed, handing a kid his daily medicine he was supposed to take before lunch, before scribbling a back-to-class note. The kid thanked him and left. Apollo finished typing on his computer and turned to Will, raising his eyebrows.

"What?" Will asked, feeling like he did something wrong.

"You're not going to lunch?"

"I never do," Will said, confused as to why his dad had brought it up.

"Yeah, but, didn't Connor ask if you wanted to go to lunch with him?" Apollo asked, raising one eyebrow now, not at all making Will feel better.

"Who said I'm going?"

"You don't have to spend all of your time in here, you know," Apollo inquired.

"I know, but I like staying in here."

"Suit yourself."

✦ Connor ✦

Will had blushed when Connor asked if they wanted to have lunch together, and he didn't know whether to take that as a yes or no. Connor hoped it was a yes. He anxiously sat with his friends, tapping his fingers, keeping his eye on the doors to hopefully see that head of curly blonde hair.

"Forget it, Connor," Katie Gardner said, throwing a look at the boy. "He's not coming."

"You don't know that," Connor murmured hopefully.

"He spends his entire time holed up in that-"

Connor's eyes lit up as he stood up and waved, spotting Will quickly. The boy blushed and walked over, standing there awkwardly. Connor offered for Will to sit next to him and the boy took his seat cautiously. Connor turned and gave Katie a look that said, "I told you so."

"Hey," Connor said and Will smiled.

"Hi."

"I didn't think you'd come," Katie said truthfully and Will shrugged, playing with the bracelets wrapped around his wrist under the table.

"Alright, well, this is Katie," Connor introduced, pointing at her. "This is Travis, my idiotic brother, also Katie's boyfriend." They both disagreed and blushed furiously, causing Connor to roll his eyes. "This is Chris Rodriguez, Ethan Nakamura and Luke Castellan."

Will waved and introduced himself, before putting on a fake smile and contributing into the conversation of the prank the Stolls pulled on Clarisse. Soon, lunch was over and they all split off to go to their fifth period. Connor and Will walked together to the second hall.

"What do you have?" Connor asked, attempting to make conversation. "I have Chemistry."

"English," Will answered. Connor stopped at the door for his Chemistry class. Will waved bye and began to walk away, but Connor grabbed his wrist, causing Will to turn around, panic in his eyes. Connor didn't know why.

"We should hang out sometime," Connor said and Will nodded, calming down. "Why did you look so scared?"

"You surprised me," Will lied so effortlessly, and Connor noticed that the corner of his lips turned up ever-so-slightly as he did.

"Oh, okay. Wanna go to the ice cream parlor down the street with my friends and I after school?"

"Sure."

Connor let go of Will's wrist, a look of relief falling over the blonde's features.

"Okay...well, see you then."

"Bye," Will murmured and watched as Connor walked into his classroom, a big smile on his face. Connor sat down in his normal seat and grinned. Today was a good day.

✦ Will ✦

Will sat down in his English class, his eyes wandering around the room before Nico sat next to him, sighing heavily.

"I hate these prompts," he commented, staring at the writing prompt on the board. Their English teacher would always make them write about something that made them happy that day. For three months straight, Will has written about his time in the infirmary. Before that, he'd write about Nico, but that was awkward now, considering they had split up (and the teacher would make him read them out loud sometimes.) Will decided he hated those prompts too.

He wrote about making a friend, giving very little details over who it was, before handing it in. Nico sat there, staring at a blank piece of paper.

"Write about Percy," Will whispered, thoroughly ignoring the pain in his chest.

"No! Then the entire class will know."

"Then write indirectly. It's what I do."

"About who?" Nico asked, curiosity evident in his eyes.

"No one, I was just-"

"Do you have another crush?" Nico inquired, smirking as Will shifted.

"No, I don't." I haven't since you.

Will and Nico had dated for a year and a half, but they had split without reason. To get over him, Will decided that maybe dating a girl would help, so he went out with Nyssa Mason, only soon to realize that girls were definitely not his thing. He then dated Nyssa's brother, Jake Mason, but they never quite had the chemistry, despite how much time they spent together.

"Then what'd you write about?" Nico asked, scribbling random things in the margins of his paper. Will shrugged.

"Don't remember," he lied so easily and believably, that Nico believed him, even though it was an obvious lie.

"I just won't do one," Nico said, shrugging and shoving the paper into his bag. Will didn't mention that the teacher took these as a grade and put on the fake smile no one seemed to be able to see through.
