Connor ✦

"How did you know to come over?" Hyacinth asked Connor softly as they sat on the couch, Apollo standing at Will's doorway so the boy couldn't get to the bathroom. Will was finally asleep, but it took a lot of coaxing and 'I promise I won't leave's.

  "He called me," Connor responded.

"Okay, enough with the nice chit-chat," Apollo snapped, his angry blue eyes glaring at Connor. "You think you can just waltz into our house at three o'clock in the morning?!"

  "It's not like I didn't knock-"

"And then you take over like we're not even there! We're his fathers and yet you-"

"Had I not done it, how far do you think you would've gotten? Sorry to inform you, but Will doesn't trust you when he has those episodes-"

"What episodes?" Hyacinth asked softly, halting all of the conversation. "And how did you know what to do?"

"My half-brother Chris was Manic Depressive. He used to come over a lot and sometimes he'd have these episodes where he'd either be really depressed, really angry, or really elated. When he came to, he told us he didn't have any control over it. I had to clean him up a few times..." Connor explained, fiddling with his fingers, trying to suppress the memories into the farthest corner of his brain.

"Do you think that's what Will has?" Apollo asked, his voice sounding defeated.

  "I don't know. I'm not a psychologist."

"But you've been around it, right? So you know what it looks like."

Connor thought for a moment. When Will realized what he'd done, he told Connor that he didn't mean to. Chris used to say stuff like that after he had his episodes. And the look in Will's eyes - the distant, cloudy look - Chris used to get it too.

"I mean...he could. He did a lot of things tonight that Chris used to do," Connor admitted, before sighing. "But Chris had it bad. I don't know about Will..." Connor trailed off. "But this is all just speculation. I'm not a doctor and I don't know for sure. Maybe talk to one of his counsellors?"

"Alright..." Apollo said. "But you should probably get home-"

"I promised I wouldn't leave him," Connor cut him off.

  "You're what? Fifteen-"

  "Sixteen, actually."

  "Oh."

"I have a car. It's not like I can't get around or anything."

Apollo sighed, before looking at the time on the stove.

"It's almost four...I guess you can stay on the couch," Apollo said, seeming hesitant.

"Thank you," Hyacinth suddenly said, causing Connor to jump. "For doing this. For being here for Will. It means a lot."

  "Of course," he murmured.

"Alright, well we should head to bed. Will's door is really creaky, so you should be able to hear him. Just - try to watch out for him, okay?"

  "Alright."

Apollo and Hyacinth nodded, before heading off to their room. Connor unfolded a blanket that was settled at the end of the couch and draped it over himself. He didn't plan on sleeping, so he pulled out his phone and texted his brother.

connor: I had to take your car. Sorry.

travis: why??

connor: There was an emergency. And why are you up at 4am?

travis: why are YOU up at 4am, lil bro?

connor: touché

travis: so how the fuck am I gonna get to school?

Connor ignored him, instead noticing a new text from Will.

  will: Are you still here?

connor: Of course. I thought you were asleep.

  will: I can't sleep.

will: But thank you for being here for me.

connor: I'll always be here for you.

will: No, seriously. You've now officially seen me at my worse and you still stick around and I'm just really grateful to have you in my life. So thank you.

connor: I love you.

Connor didn't send it. The cursor sat, blinking at him, waiting for him to type something else. His finger hovered over the send button, but he quickly backspaces and retyped.

connor: You're welcome. Try to get some sleep, okay?

  will: I guess...goodnight.

  connor: Sweet dreams.

Connor exited the messages when Will didn't reply. He checked the time again, before sighing and pulling up his messages with Leo.

con-bon: Do you mind getting the Algebra lesson for me again today? I won't be there.

leo el león: wtf dude when are you ever gonna come to class

con-bon: Never

leo el león: well im not doing your work for you so have a nice life failing algebra

con-bon: I'm just joking dude. And something came up so I'm gonna be a lil late to class.

leo el león: is it will

  leo el león: nvm.

  leo el león: night
