the auditorium is scattered with folding tables, cardboard signs, and shitty designed flyers—"science," "debate," "latinx student union." students mill around in packs, grabbing anything free the clubs may have been offering as a bribe into compliance. cheap pens, unbranded candy, one was even marketing free high fives.

zigzagging between booths, circling like a hawk, frantic to find the internets latest victim in hopes of a conversation. upon leaving the principals office you'd already been calling back to back, assuming she must've been somewhere in the crowd of booths and flyers. no sight, and no answer.

but the principals conversation weighed heavy on your mind regardless of the circumstances.

"for justice or not, there are ways to go about things without causing a disruption."

principal zackary, an old man with too much white hairs to count. he was the standard principal, rarely ever out, but apparently was most definitely present at the pep rally to witness your little announcement.

you clear your throat, barely above a whisper as he shifts in the seat, obviously annoyed by how more attention got drawn to the situation. it was still fresh, barely able to form coherent intel on it this evening, hearing students in the halls but not being able to crack any of them. then there was the end of spirit week, which didn't help at all.

"concerning the other issue. the anonymous post, it's crossed the line into harassment."

your eyes lower, tensed but there's no signs in your voice, "so what does that mean for the people being posted?"

"whoever's behind it wants reactions like yours. you're being provoked, and that rally gave whoever it is exactly what they wanted."

"sir, with all do respect, you're not doing anything."

"i've already reported the account to the platform, and currently am working with the district's IT to trace it — not easy when everything's anonymous," he sighs, not too happy about the situation, but even more upset by how out of touch you'd been acting, "but what i need from you is to stay calm. no more mic grabs, no more public scenes."

this was just like the school, to play quiet while the anonymous just get to play with peoples lives. maybe they didn't have the budget, or maybe they didn't want their name to get dragged through the mud as well.

"so just take it? let people believe whatever they want?"

"(y/n), i can only assume you dont want parents called. don't give them more ammunition, if it escalates, i wont have no choice. for now im trusting you, and if any of you who're being targeted hears anything, sees anything. you come to me first, not the gym floor."
