Chapter 35.

Santos was standing outside Diana's luxurious mansion gathering the courage to walk inside. He opened the back seat and took out the gift bag and the roses. He took deep breaths as he locked his car then walked to the entrance and rang the bell. He could here the dogs barking loudly as the security opened the gate and let him inside. The dogs were held back by the new security as he walked to the main house door, he pushed in the code at the security to unlock the door but it was denied. He rang the inside house bell and after a while he could see Diana dressed in an oversized T-shirt and baggy sweatpants. Her hair was tied up in a rough bun and even with no makeup she was still the most beautiful thing in his eyes. She unlocked the door and stepped aside without saying a word.

"Hi... I brought you flowers," He said silently as she closed the door.

"Why bother???" She said calmly as she walked inside the house and he sighed frustrated before following her. 

"It's good courtesy to bring a gift when you go to someone's house..."

"For you unless its baby related don't bother... Sit down I'll bring baby Mariana..." She said as she walked into the baby playroom and he sighed frustrated by the coldness she was giving.The fact that he was making an effort to fix their relationship and she still wasn't concerned at all by his gesture was really getting to him. He put the flowers next to the counter and put the gift bag next to it when Diana came out of the playroom holding the tiny human in her arms.

"My princess..." He said smiling happily when she gave er to him. He cooed with the sleeping baby slowly swinging as she poured herself a glass of water.

"Her checkup is tomorrow..."

"I can pick you up," he said lightly and she smirked lightly drinking her water.

"Clearly I have a driver that I pay to drive me around..." She said after she finished her water and he sighed lightly.

"I want to be involved with affairs relating to my daughter Diana..."

"I didn't say you won't be involved in you daughter's  affairs all i said is you won't drive us there... you can meet us at the hospital if you want but you won't drive us there..," She said and he smirked irritated his plan was backfiring walking around with the baby.

"I brought some gifts for you and Mariana... I remember how much you loved random gifts-" 

"Don't start with me..."

"Babe am trying-"

"Don't call me that, concéntrate en tus deberes como padre.!!" She said coldly before walking away leaving him with his daughter.( Focus on your duties as a father )

He wanted her back but it felt like everything he was doing was irritating her. Everything is different with her and the only conversation that she will engage with him is about his daughter. He walked around cradling the tiny baby as she slept beautifully taking all the time to observe her fixtures.

This was the life he has always wanted, him,Diana and their kids but because of what happened even that is on the line just like his job. The director had still not cleared him to go back to work especially after the disappearance of his spy. No matter how many attempts he had made to talk to his superiors about returning to work he got blatantly shut down. He slowly took out his phone careful not to wake the baby up and called his partner that was still with the team.

"Hey bro, how you doing??" He said silently so that the sleeping beauty would not wake up.

"Am good... Am actually at Diana's visiting my daughter..."

"Am working on it, who knows maybe soon we will get back together-"

"Oh you can believe am working on it but that is besides the point, I need you to tell me what's going on with the case on Giovanni De Luca??"

"Wait what???" He whispered a yell and the baby started whimpering so he gently shushed her as he slowly swayed with her.

"This has De Luca written all over it!!!" He said whispering angrily as the baby slowly drifted to sleep.

"Listen I need you to keep looking-"

"What do you mean by that?? You are the only person  I trust with this..."

.....

"I can't let this go. I can almost assure you that sick bastard is the reason for my sudden suspension... He knows am on to him..."

"I can't do that anymore!! Alright if you don't want to help me with this De Luca then help me trace the steps of my spy..."

.....

"I've been busy but now am all clear to find her, I need your help because she's the only one who can explain the ambush that happened at the docs..." He said lightly pleading with his partner until he agreed to help him.

"Thank you man, I owe you big time..." He said taking light breaths of relief a smile lighting his face.

"I understand. I have to go now I here Diana coming down. Thank you again..." He said lightly and after the goodbyes he hang up the call putting his phone away happily. 

"Your father is back in the game princess. I will get back my job then get your mother back and we'll go back to how everything was supposed to be..." He whispered in a baby voice happily showering the sleeping beauty with kisses until she started whimpering and he slowly swayed while shushing her.

Everything was going to fall into place, one way or the other it was with Giovanni's downfall. If he finds the spy alive then he will make her tell him exactly what went wrong with the docs mission and she will be the star witness in the trial against Giovanni. If she's dead then he will automatically pin the murder on him because he was a federal informant who turned up dead on her mission which was the Italian Mafia run by Giovanni De Luca. Either way he had his head on a silver platter and he wasn't going to waste this opportunity the universe had handed him but first he had to find that spy dead or alive.

Diana suddenly walked into the living room where he was with the baby while typing her phone.

"Is she still asleep??" She said calmly putting her phone in the pocket of her baggy sweatpants.

"Yes she is, she's such a heavy sleeper... I was on phone right now and she didn't even open her eyes.Most babies I've seen cry a lot but our baby is just perfect..." He said smiling lightly and she chuckled lightly.

"Oh don't be deceived..." She said in between her light chuckles.

"Oh my baby is the perfect baby ever to exist.." He said happily lifting the baby up gently as she scrunched her legs, "Yes you aree.." He cooed at her in a babyish voice and Diana laughed lightly and the baby whimpered with muffled cries.

"Clearly you need to have a night shift with her" She said controlling her laughter.

"Am sure I will survive..." He said as the baby started crying and he cradled her.

"Alright your perfect baby is hungry now... Will you feed her??"

"Yes I will..." He said smiling happily and she walked back to the kitchen to get the bottle of milk she had pumped earlier.
