Love stories aren't always about grand gestures or neat resolutions. Some aren't even smooth but carry the scars, anger, fear, and need beneath the surface. Love itself isn't an idealised, unchanging thing but one that evolves, stumbles, and endures.

Healing doesn't always come in dramatic moments. It arrives quietly in mundane choices, in gentle persistence, in the effort to stay present when it would be easier to walk away. Falling out of step and still choosing each other again and again.

This story begins in silence, in a place where being different was dangerous and where love between men still had no legal place. A slow-burning love, addressing the deeply transformative forces in the lives of two men, from Bangkok to London. Jay, who built his life on distance, having learnt how to live without being noticed and never expecting anyone to stay. And Sean, who just saw beyond the polished façade, beyond the fine line presented to the world. Never questioning scars and silences stretched too long, nor turning away. Just staying long enough to make distance impossible.

Jay and Sean didn't fall in love – not in the way people like to tell it. They just stopped pretending they weren't alone.

Their story is not about reaching a perfect state.

It's about the journey.

And the courage it takes to keep walking it together.

Author's Note:

When I first began working on this story, I was surprised by the reality of the LGBTQ+ scene in Thailand. On the surface, the country often appears free and tolerant, but beneath that lies a complex and difficult fight for recognition and equality. Though fictional, this story reflects that struggle, capturing the challenges faced by those living in a society where love and identity aren't always accepted openly.

Since then, a remarkable milestone has been reached: as of 23rd January 2025, same-sex marriage has become legal in Thailand. This victory is the culmination of years of courage and activism and fills me with hope. While the story is set before this change, I hope it honours the resilience of those who fought for love to be recognised and celebrated.
