I gently ently caressed her hair, but my insides were burning—burning with a rage so consuming, it begged to destroy. Vikram Sachdeva. Urmila Sachdeva. There would be no limit to their punishment. No mercy.
I looked down at her face. She had fallen asleep while crying—her lashes still damp, her features so delicate yet haunted. My heart clenched painfully. She looked like a broken doll trying to hold herself together, and yet, she had survived. She had endured.
I leaned down and pressed a soft kiss on her temple, murmuring against her hair, "You're the strongest person I've ever known, Cherry. You endured hell at just fifteen. Today, my respect for you... it's beyond words."
I brushed a strand away from her face, letting my fingers linger for a second longer.
"Sleep well, love. I have something to take care of now," I whispered.
Carefully, I laid her back on the bed, tucking the blanket around her gently like she deserved to be wrapped in the safest love. I kissed her one last time—on her forehead, with reverence—before walking out of the room, my jaw clenched, my heart heavy and furious.
As I stepped out, I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed Ansh's number.
He picked up after a few rings. I didn't bother with greetings.
"I want Vikram and Urmila Sachdeva in my basement... within one fucking hour," I said coldly.
"What?!" Ansh's voice thundered in disbelief.
"I. Said. I. Want. Vikram. And. Urmila. In. My. Basement. Within. One. Fucking. Hour," I gritted out, each word slicing through clenched teeth like a blade.
There was a pause. Then Ansh exhaled, his tone lower but still tense. "Consider it done. But... what happened? Why this suddenly?"
I closed my eyes for a moment, my hand tightening around the phone. My voice dropped, heavy with weight. "Aaravi told me everything today... about her past."
"She... she did what?" Ansh whispered, then his voice rose, shaken. "Is she okay? Was she crying? Tell me—was she crying, Nikshant?"
My throat felt tight."Yes... she was. She broke down in my arms, Karan. I've never seen her like that. She hid all that pain... all these months from me. And I... I never even knew."
I heard him take a deep breath before he said, "They'll be in your basement within one hour."
But that wasn't enough. The question that had been clawing at my chest ever since Aaravi told me about her past finally exploded out of me.
"Why didn't you do anything to them, Ansh? When they did that to Aaravi... why?"
There was a millisecond of silence, and then he said. I could imagine him running a hand through his hair and clenching his jaw.
His voice cracked slightly, and I could feel the storm rising inside him. "I wanted to kill them instantly. And I would've fucking would've. But that night, my princess needed me. She needed her brother. She needed a shoulder to cry on. Someone to hold her when her world collapsed. Someone to whisper sweet nothings into her ear when the nightmares wouldn't leave her the fuck alone. She needed someone to take care of her, to make her feel like she wasn't completely broken. And in that moment... nothing else mattered more to me than her. Nothing."
