Charlotte is Damon's only and best friend; they've known each other for a long time, having shared something in their past, and after learning Katherine abandoned him, he needs her now more than ever, even if it's just to spill a little blood and drink a lot of alcohol.

PERSONALITY Charlotte, when she was human, was a timid woman, though a loving and caring person. She was under the thumb of her husband's harmful influence. Once she became a Vampire, she became more independent, no longer cowering. She has grown into herself, becoming more playful and sarcastic, with sassy and witty remarks, taking after her best friend in her snarky attitude towards those not within her family, friends, or circle of influence. However, she can be somewhat childish; she uses this to her advantage with her sly and cunning strategies, drawing on her experience as a Nurse during the war.
Stefan doesn't like Charlotte a lot, though he's glad Damon has a friend, but her bluntness and brutal honesty are something he could do without in his life. Still, unlike his hot-headed brother, Charlotte can remain calm and level-headed during disputes. However, she's passionate about things like running her bar for Supernaturals; it's an entirely different situation. Her loyalty towards those within her group, especially Damon, is something others find endearing, and Charlotte will always support Damon's choice. However, she will try to bend it for the better.
