Chapter 11: Lunch Time Disasters

Song: Clumsy by Fergie

 Jalena’s POV

I headed into the cafeteria for lunch, and took my place in the long line of teens waiting to get their food. My mind wondered into last night’s conversation on the phone with Justin. It was comfortable talking to him. He made it so easy too. He didn’t show off like some jock or act like any other stupid teenage boy’s. He was real and we talked about real things, real life things. I loved that he had goals too even with a football scholarship under his belt, that wasn’t he’s main reason for going to college. He told me he wanted to be a music composer for movies or even just for an orchestra, which I thought was pretty awesome since I love score music.

It was like we were a couple on that match mating service they show on TV… eHarmony.com …a match made in heaven… He told me he writes lyrics to music that he makes himself. I told him I would love to hear some stuff he has written. Loving the sound of his voice I could only imagine how good he would sound singing.  As we talked his voice took on a lower smoother level like a lullaby luring me to sleep especially when he’d say my name. I felt goose bumps on my arms just thinking about it.

When we finally got off the phone my special place had completely melted and I was even more confused about where we stood with each other. I liked him, loved talking to him on the phone. If my mom hadn’t come to my room last night I would have stayed on it all night, shoot I would have asked him to sing to me on the phone, but that would have caused all kinds of problems like me running up the street banging on his door to finish what we started in the car…crazy… I’d probably get arrested by his parents or with my luck, by our weird looking neighbor, an oriental lady with these too big ol’ sunglasses, and a freaky stare. I’ve said hi to her a few times when I was outside and she would reply with a raspy voice “hey.” Who says hey? Kids say hey not adults it’s just weird. She’s always out in her front yard with her creepy little dog either mowing it or pulling weeds out of the already perfect yard. It’s fun watching her mow her lawn, the lawnmower being twice her size. Man my thoughts are random today… What I needed to do was stop thinking. Thinking about weird neighbors and boys I couldn’t have or needed. We could be friends… ‘That’s all He and I could ever be.’ I thought with the golden boy’s voice still swirling in my head. “Goodnight Lena Marie,” he had said and because of him I did have a goodnight a short one but a good one.

“Hey could you move up please.” Someone said behind me. Oops! I was so busy thinking that I completely forgot where the heck I was.

“Sorry,” I said as I moved up… Lunch lines are horrible they are so long, and with kids cutting in line it makes it seem like you never get to your food. I already see two new faces that weren’t there before… Jackasses. I usually bring my lunch but I was running late this morning having so little sleep with the late night phone chat and not to mention the thoughts of first kisses, that I didn’t grab my lunch bag. Damn that boy. I blame him if he hadn’t kissed me I would have my lunch by now…. No, that’s not fair I did kiss him back. And boy did I kiss him back.

I looked over at the table where Krista and Becca told me to meet them at and there they sat the whole crew. I saw on one side of the table with their backs towards me, Krista and Becca, and with two girls between him, was Caleb. On the opposite side facing me was Niko, Anthony and of course there was Justin with his Barbie sitting right next to him. She was practically on him she was so close. And she of course had her two bratz dolls across from her. ‘This is going to be one interesting lunch period with this crew of people.’ I thought as I finally got to my food. I grabbed my tray, a cheeseburger with questionable looking meat and fries with a nice size tub of ketchup. I turned with butterflies in my stomach and headed on over to the table.
