AUTHOR'S POV

Jeanne was still in the bush.

Like, fully invested.
She had now named it Bushicaa and claimed it as her new residence.

"SHAWN!" she cried from within the leafy chaos. "I think I've merged with nature! Do you think I'll develop photosynthesis? Will I glow green? I always wanted to be bioluminescent!"

Shawn, lying on the grass like a war veteran who had seen too much, stared at the stars, praying for a meteor to take him out.

"I should've just stayed in bed," he muttered. "Watched a documentary. Maybe on frogs. Frogs don't climb into bushes and scream about glowing."

From the bush:
"I HEARD THAT, YOU MARSHMALLOW MAN-HUMAN."

"Jeanne, please get out of the shrubbery."

"YOU DON'T TELL A BUSH WIFE HOW TO LIVE HER LIFE!" she screamed, one leg flinging out of the bush like an angry vine.

A dog across the street howled in agreement.

With all the patience of a man who'd been dating a tequila bottle by accident, Shawn stood up, brushed grass off his very done body, and marched over to the bush

He crouched down. Looked inside.

"Jeanne. You have exactly two options," he said, staring into the Jungle Book sequel happening in there.
"One—you come out peacefully, and we go home.
Or two—I call a wildlife rescue and say I found a confused garden nymph stuck in a mid-life crisis."

Jeanne gasped and pressed her hand to her heart. "How dare you?! I'm a young nymph in the prime of my breakdown!"

"That's it."
He reached in, grabbed her waist, and yanked her out like a drunk fairy being exorcised from foliage.

She squealed and dramatically wrapped her arms around his neck like she was being rescued from a collapsing building

"I THOUGHT YOU'D FORGET ME!" she wailed.
