Ash's POV
We entered the room carefully, as we could see the laser lights clearly, I've never come across through such laser beams, which sort of made me feel nervous. I looked at Darren,
"Nervous?" He asked
"Hmm.. a bit..this feels..different"
"I can understand, but we have to get out from this." He said as I nodded in agreement.
My heart is beating weirdly, shit! This can't be happening now..
"D-Darren" I called his name stuttering.
"Muffin..calm down.. it's nothing I'm with you...look at me...see.. I'm here"
"I-its happening again.."
"I know, I know, calm down."Darren's POV
Seeing Ash’s anxiety spike, my heart ached. I knew her nocnophobia could become overwhelming, especially in a dark, creepy environment like this one. I moved closer, placing my hands gently on her shoulders.
"Ash, look at me," I said softly, trying to ground her. "Just focus on my voice. I’m right here, okay?"
She looked up at me with wide, tear-filled eyes. Her breaths came in short, ragged gasps. "I-I can’t... it’s too much."
"Hey, hey," I said, guiding her to lean against the wall. "Just take deep breaths with me. In through the nose... hold it... and out through the mouth. We’ll get through this together."
I demonstrated the breathing exercise, and she tried to follow, her breaths shaky but improving slowly. I kept my gaze steady and reassuring, trying to calm her racing heart with my presence.
"You're doing great," I said softly. "Just keep focusing on me. We’re in this together. I won't let anything happen to you."
Her grip on my hand tightened, and I could feel her starting to regain a bit of control. "I’m scared, Darren," she admitted in a whisper.
"I know you are," I replied, squeezing her hand gently. "But remember, you’ve faced tough things before, and you’ve always come out stronger. This is just one more challenge we can handle together."
I kept my arms around her, providing the warmth and comfort she needed. The spooky atmosphere and the looming laser beams seemed to fade away as we focused on each other. Her breathing became steadier, and the panic in her eyes began to recede.
"You’re safe with me," I assured her. "We’re going to find that artifact, and we’re going to do it together. I promise."
She nodded, her gaze meeting mine with newfound resolve. "Okay. Let’s do this."
We stood up from the floor, Ash still slightly shaken but determined. I gave her a reassuring smile, squeezing her hand once more. The room we were in was dark except for the ominous red glow from the laser beams crisscrossing around us.
