Author's POV.
At Ghoshal Mansion
Few weeks later...
It had been three weeks since that night at the hospital.
The day Priya’s world ended, and everyone else’s had just paused.
Now, back at her parents’ home, the Ghoshal residence, the house was filled with people—but felt emptier than ever.
Priya sat on the balcony swing, curled up in a blanket, staring at the cloudy sky. She hadn’t said much in days. Words felt meaningless.
Inside the living room, her family watched her quietly from a distance.
Anuradha, wiping her hands with a kitchen towel, whispered to Abhay, “She hasn’t touched breakfast again.”
Abhay sighed deeply, rubbing his temple. “At least she’s sitting outside. That’s something.”
“Something?” Abeer muttered from the sofa, eyes locked on his sister. “You call that something? She hasn’t smiled in weeks, Baba. She’s breathing, but she’s not living.”
“Bhai,” Ridhima spoke softly, “maybe she needs more time.”
“Or maybe she needs answers,” Abeer’s voice turned sharper. “And the one who owes her that is walking free.”
“Enough.” Anuradha cut in, firm but tired. “Don’t bring his name in this house again. Please.”
Just then, the glass door slid open.
Priya walked in quietly, still wrapped in the shawl.
Her eyes didn’t move to anyone.
She walked slowly toward the sofa and sat beside her mother.
“Beta…” Anuradha whispered gently, brushing Priya’s hair behind her ear. “Do you want to eat something?”
“Tea?” Abhay asked softly.
Priya shook her head. “No, Baba.”
“Want to go for a walk? Fresh air might help,” Abeer offered, trying.
“No, bhaiya,” she murmured.
“I’m baking lemon cake. Remember the one you love? With the soft crust and gooey center? " Ridhima said.
“No, Ridhima… I’m fine.” Her voice was soft but final.
She turned around and walked slowly toward her room, the door closing behind her with a gentle click.
Everyone in the room went silent.
Abeer sighed, shaking his head slightly, and dropped the remote on the table. “She didn’t even touch lunch.”
Ridhima placed the bowl down and leaned her head on her knees. “She doesn’t even look like Didi anymore.”
At that moment, Abhay stood up and adjusted the cuffs of his shirt.
“Abeer, Ridhima — I and your mom are going out tonight for a small event. You both stay home and look after your sister, alright?”
Abeer raised an eyebrow. “What event, Baba? You didn’t mention anything earlier.”
