Part 2: Building a Group

Will told me what happened after that I fell asleep. When he saw that I was sleeping, he went back to the driver's seat and got back on the road. We weren't far from Mia's house anymore. When he pulled into the parking of her house he didn't let Mia go there, he went himself alone. She was really angry at him but she knew it was best if she stayed in the car. So Will went in the house.

Unfortunately, Mia's parents had been contaminated and were actually fighting to eat one of the dogs. Most of the animals in the house were lying dead and half-eaten everywhere in the small kitchen. The smell there was horrible. Since they were too busy to notice him, Will went straight back to the car and told the awful news to his girlfriend. She cried. She cried for many reasons. The loss of her family, the fact that she would never see them again and mostly because that meant that there was no turning back. For her, it officially declared the end of the world as she knew it.

Then, we traveled back to Will's house. It took almost half an hour to get there. Will woke me up to make me enter his house but I really don't remember this. I was moving like a robot and went straight to Will's bedroom. I sat on his bed but didn't lay down. He said that then I started crying again and that he had to caress my back like he did the first time in the car to calm me down and bring me back to sleep. It didn't take me long.

The only thing left to do was waiting to see if either Will's parents were going to show up or not. To make Mia feel better by making her mind busy on something else, they played Super Smash Brawl until past seven O'clock. It was 7:23 on the clock next to Will's bed when I woke up. My hand was hurting again slightly but I didn't care. The pain was nothing compared to the one in my chest. Slowly, I got up and saw Mia on the floor next to the bed, her head on her boyfriend's lap, the both of them their attention on the screen before them.

"You could have sit on the bed, you know," I said in a sleepy voice.

"Hey! You're awake!" Will smiled at me after pausing his game. "Did you sleep well?"

"No," I yawned at them. "But that's not important. Are your parents back home?" I asked.

He looked down, obviously sad. "No and they didn't answered when I called them."

"I'm sorry," I said. "Have you tried to contact others?"

"No we only called Will's parents a few times but nobody else," Mia told me. "At first I thought about checking who were connected on Facebook but also figured that it would be the last thing I'd do if I was trying to see if people are actually still alive. Or that people may look connected but they might just have been logged on before they fell asleep and went mad."

"Yeah ok, but you still could have checked, no?" I said. "I mean would it hurt to even try? At least we could know if we're the only ones that has been confronted to those things."

"We didn't thought about this, bro," Will intervened. "But if you haven't see, we've been through something that left us shaken and it's kind of hard to think completely straight in that situation."

"I'm as shaken as you are in this! But I still can manage to think in that situation because that's the only thing that can help us out of this!" My voice was getting louder as anger stirred in me. "I freaking watched the father of my siblings EAT them and it's starting to get me mad but I still can think and I'm using EVERYTHING I've got to get us outta this mess. I could use a hand, just so I'm not the only one doing everything!"
