I looked at the clock on the oven and saw that it was almost noon. "Are you hungry?" I questioned him while standing up to make me something. He nodded and I made sandwiches for the both of us. At some point, the others arrived in the kitchen and we were all eating together. Maybe it was only me but I felt like everyone was in a bright mood. Ashley was all over her boyfriend who was trying to breathe and get away from the psycho she was. Will was on Mia's lap and they were sharing their lunch he made for them. They were cute together and they looked like a new couple even though they had been together for over a year. In this instant, everything felt right in place. We could have been in paradise right then not in hell with dangerous creatures that crept in the night. We all forgot the horror and were trying to live like we've never lived for the fallen ones.

When we were done eating, we all agreed on installing ourselves in front of the TV and play games. It went on for almost an hour.

When we stopped playing, I suggested to Jamie that we'd go to the grocery store take everything we could.

"Do you think we'll be able to stock more food?" he asked.

"Shit you're right I forgot we were full," I said.

We tried to find something because we knew that we'd need more food soon enough.

Luckily, Will found a solution. "I could go to Jamie's house with Mia and we'd take the fridge and the freezer," he suggested.

We debated about how he'd get them here and we decided he'd take a pickup in the neighborhood. I argued that it should be two guys to move those heavy things but Mia cut me off, offended, saying she was stronger than she looked.

Before going out, I went to Dylan and remembering that he knew how to cook, asked him (more like pleading) if he could prepare something for later that night with Ashley. They both accepted.

Fifteen minutes later, Jamie and I were sitting in the car, watching Will and Mia armed with knives going to search for a pickup.

Jamie started the engines and we were off on the road for the second time this day. I really hoped that my best friend and his girlfriend would end up ok. The ride to the biggest town close to where we were would be shorter than the ride of this morning.

"I would love to learn to drive," I said out loud. I was figuring out it'd be real handy.

"I could teach you," Jamie offered me. "I know I haven't got any experience but I passed my tests with highest marks of my class," he told me, pride leaking in his voice.

"I would love that and by the way for as far as I can tell you're a really good driver."

"Thanks," he said with an almost modest smile.

I glanced at the windshield. I had difficulty getting used of seeing the roads empty of other cars driving and looking at those car cemeteries. We arrived to the grocery store quickly enough. Much like the hospital parking, the grocery was full of cars. I guessed they all had the same idea when they saw what was happening. We got out of the car after he parked on the street. As we walked to the entrance we made sure to stay away from the corpses that were laying everywhere. Most of them must have been dead people but some could have only been sleeping. In the store, many lights were broken and lots of food had been thrown on the floor.
