We didn't talk for the whole drive to Will's home. I didn't try to engage a conversation either. Jenna was still sleeping when we arrived. She looked so peaceful I didn't want to wake her up. Then I had an idea. A stupid idea in fact. Which is why I decided to do it. I opened the backseat door and half-entered. I put an arm under her neck and the other under her knees. I knew that since she wasn't quite small, height of a baby giant I'd say, I knew she weighted more than a feather. I lifted her up slowly, grunting a little from the efforts. Centimeter by centimeter, I got her out from the back of the car and walked to the door where Jamie stood, staring at me on the verge of bursting out laughing. I grunted at him for standing like a fool doing nothing. He understood and opened the door widely.
"There they are!" somebody exclaimed, "The newlyweds entering their house for the first time!"
I looked around and saw Will looking at me with a weird smile.
"Shut the heck up, would you? She's sleeping!" I whispered-yell at him.
"Oh sorry," he whispered too.
I walked past him with Jenna in my arms getting heavier every second. As I arrived in front of the flight of stairs, I sighed at how stupid I had been for even trying. Still I wasn't going to admit such a defeat before even giving it a fight. I mustered all my strength and started walking up the stairs. My bandaged hand begun hurting badly. I was desperate for a shot of morphine to stop it from throbbing. Faster than I expected, I arrived on the first floor and almost ran to my bedroom. The door was closed and I had no hand to open it. I turned around and saw Jamie walking to me.
"I think I need help," I told him.
He grinned and winked at me. "You're lucky that I came up here then!" he teased.
I rolled my eyes. "C'mon she's not that light you know."
He passed in front of me and opened the door slowly. I almost scowled at him but then I looked at his ass and I forgot to be mad. I entered the room after him and put Jenna down delicately on the bed.
"I'm gonna take a shot of morphine since my hand hurts so bad, I'll be right back," I told Jamie after I turned to face him.
"Didn't you take one not even two hours ago?" he asked frowning.
I nodded. "Yeah but I need another one anyway.
"I don't think you should do that. Morphine is a really dangerous drug, you shouldn't mess with it. I don't want you to get addicted."
"I'm not stupid," I scowled at him. "I'm no drug addict either. I can take care of myself too thank you." With that, I exited the room and went into the bathroom. I knew I had no problem with drugs and I hated being told to be careful when I was already doing it. I took the backpack, opened it and I looked at the syringes in it. I was starting feeling ashamed as Jamie's word sank in my mind. I thought about the fact that it had barely been one day since I got the bite and I already had shot myself thrice. I knew deep down that my love for the feeling the morphine gave me had something to do with this. I zipped the bag closed and walked out of the room. Jamie was leaning on the wall, his back to me. He had his forehead against the wall, a fist on the wall as if he'd been trying to hit it and he had his eyes closed.
"You were right and I was wrong," I said. He turned around to face me. "I'm getting addicted to this and that's why I decided I'd stop taking shots. Figured it would be better."
