Part 5: Honeymoon

A/N: So, first off, I wanna say sorry for this chapter being very short (short than most of my other chapters), but I am convinced the content will be worth it! Secondly, I wanted to thank NixonCamere  personally for being the source of me revisiting and actually continuing this story that I've poured so many hours into. Comments do a lot of work to give that little push some writers like me need in order to find the motivation because writing is too often a very lonely line of work. Thank you a thousand times for everyone who enjoys this story because it means so much to me.

The next two weeks were probably the best weeks of my life. While our small group had been busy planning and making sure we would find a way to survive in this world, I dedicated myself to Jamie just as he did. We decided we would not share our new relationship, probably due to the fact that we had no real idea what we were to each other yet. But the stolen kisses around every corner and the hand holding underneath the table during meal time made me so happy, I truly forgot for a while how unlikely the situation was and how bad the outside world could get.

We had been lucky ever since the beginning of the apocalypse in the sense that we barely had any troubles with the zombie-like people, even though we were in a residential area. Throughout the weeks we found ourselves attracting the attention of some zombies (if we could even call them that) but nothing worrisome. We were happy because we had electricity still going and a nice supply of food that could last us a while. However, none of us ever wondered what would happen once the electricity would run out. Our countryside area was deserved in electricity by the hydroelectric dams hundred of thousands of kilometers away which unbeknownst to us needed constant checking in order to produce the sweet sweet juice of our lives that let us see after the dark.

The first time we lost power was during the night. The only reason I noticed it was because Jamie and I had been awake in our bed the whole night, pecking kisses on each others' lips while talking about our future together. The lampposts outside were the first thing to go out that night and since they had been the only source of light beside the digital alarm clock on the bedside table, we noticed it right away. Only five seconds later, we heard the motors of the large appliances downstairs screeched before stopping. The sound was barely audible but Jamie and I had gone quiet enough that we were able to hear it.

"I think we just lost the electricity," Jamie stated.

I gave him a 'duh' look although I had no idea if he could see it in the complete darkness. We waited in complete silence for a moment, until the lampposts went back on again. I wanted to cheer and I was about to when for the second time they went out. We didn't know it yet but it had been the last time we would see electricity in a long time.

"Do you think it's gonna come back?" I asked Jamie, even though he didn't know anymore than I did.

"I hope so," he said simply. "We'll lose all our food in a couple days if we don't get it back..."

We were fortunate enough that in that instant the electricity came back... but for what turned out to be our last precious fifteen minutes. After the first hour without electricity was not so bad. Only me and Jamie were even aware of anything, but we were convinced it would come back once again. However, when the third away came by, my brain was already spinning around trying to find solutions. Our whole survival plan had turned sour and no one here was aware yet but me.

"NATE!" Jamie exclaimed from the other side of the bed.

"Huh?" I said as I turned to face him.

The typical side smile appeared on his sweet features before he started re-repeating for probably the thousandth time. "I was asking what you were thinking about cause you've been staring at the wall for what felt like a couple hours."

I chuckled. "Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts," I said which was met with a duh face from that gorgeous man.

He scooted over and pulled me closer to his torso before pulling himself halfway over my extended body. He pecked me on the lips and before I could deepen the kiss, he pulled his face away from me.

"So what was it that was so import that you forgot to pay attention to your love?" he said while he showed me his toothed grin.

I furrowed my brows. "My love you say. I don't remember us having that discussion yet!" I exclaimed, confused.

"Don't try to change the subject or I will have to tickle you," he threatened as his he moved his right hand that was laying on my hips to my side almost right underneath the armpit.

I gave him a warning look and opted to share my mind with him. "We will have to move by next week."

His surprised expression told me everything I needed to know before I pulled his body off of me before getting on top of him in sly twist. My hands did not hesitate as I dug my fingers into his sides right over his hips. He broke in a fit of laughter, his eyes closed and his face red from trying to escape from under me. "You do not threaten me and get away with it!" I exclaimed before I dove to the crook of his neck and started biting his soft skin. Quickly, I stopped tickling his sides and put my hands directly on his hips just as he started grinding them. I knew from the way he was breathing that I was pleasing his sensory inputs just the way he liked.

I eventually stopped biting and looked deep into his soulful eyes before placing a chaste kiss on his soft lips. "I thought about all our options so far and in all honesty, we will have to leave here in order to follow a more nomad lifestyle," I ended up telling him. "Our food resources will goo bad quickly and after that we will be at the mercy of hunger and especially thirst. The water pipes will have been shut down since there is no more electricity.

He nodded, the movement barely noticeable if we hadn't been so close of each other. "You're making a very good point, but I'm concern with the issue of the zombie people roaming the streets. We have been very lucky so far in this neighbourhood with the almost non-existent threats. I'm not we will be so lucky again and I'm very much concerned with our chance of survival outside."

"I agree that it will be more dangerous, but it would be less dangerous than if we stayed and had to go further and further away to get only enough food to last a few days. And without a source of water we will only live at most three days before dying from dehydration."

"Damn," he whispered. "I guess you really thought this through," he said with a hint of playfulness in his voice.

I didn't bother responding because I was focusing on his face and especially and this feeling of calm appreciation I felt from being in contact with his skin, knowing that my feelings were truly reciprocated by the man I fell in love with when I was only a child. I could not help but feeling truly happy that this apocalypse found a way to bring us closer in a way I had dreamt for so long. I was content, I truly was, but I wanted more.

"On a lighter note," I said, trailing off, "you are and I quote my love, aren't you?"

His sheepish smile toned down a bit. "Yeah, well– Hmm, considering everything we've been doing and... you know just the basic feelings we've been showing... and I mean I agreed to be your boyfriend and all I know we having shared the words yet but—"

"Hey, it's okay," I chuckled. I looked deeply in his brown soft eyes that were scrutinizing my features and let those three little words fall from my slightly quivering lips, "I love you."

The eyes grew in shock, but they quickly went back to those happy slightly closed position they had every time he was happy. "I love you too," he said before pushing his lips onto mine and tilting his head as he opened his mouth. His tongue snaked through my lips and the burning fire in me burned a bit brighter. I quickly took control of his wrists and I pushed them over his head while my hips dug in rhythm with his. Our eyes danced on our almost naked bodies as we picked up more and more heat and feverish lush. It was surprising that through all that time we had not gone all the way but tonight seemed to be that day. I wanted it to be that day. We quickly took turn taking each others' underwear and we resumed our rhythms both enjoying the sensations that felt new to us. We had that special connection that filled our minds with the present moment, never once worrying about the future, the uncertainty or even our flatmates.
