A/N: I dedicate this chapter to Larry-S_Shiper who went on a streak of voting on my story today!! THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU ROCK!!!!
I followed Jamie out of the house and to his car. Before going in, I thought about something. "You should bring your phone so we'd have a way to communicate, don't you think?" I asked him.
He nodded slowly and then gulped out loud. I remembered and quickly proposed going myself. He nodded again and I walked to Jamie's house. Once I got in, I quickly went to Jamie's room and grabbed his phone. I could hear a faint sound coming from the room where Sarah had been locked in. the sound resembled what you hear when a fat person pant hard while doing sports. The sound was quite creepy since it was being muffled. It felt like it could be coming from anywhere. It was almost scaring me so I fled the house in record time.
Back to the car, I shouted "Catch!" while throwing the phone at Jamie. Luckily, since he's quite athletic, he caught it easily.
"You shouldn't have one that, it could have broken if I didn't catch it!" he said angrily.
"I know that, but still it didn't break so we're fine," I answered while I rolled my eyes.
He entered the car and slammed his door. Geez, you'd think he was a steroid addict. I sat in the car and looked at him. "Don't be mad please," I pleaded.
"I'm not mad, sorry, I'm just really jumpy lately."
I frowned. "Nah you're not that jumpy you act quite normally too so don't worry about it!" I gave him a reassuring smile and he responded by giving me one sexy grin.
"You're weird," he said chuckling.
"Thank you so much, it means the world to me," I responded, grinning widely.
He started the engine and we were off the road in no time. We chatted happily during the whole drive mostly telling stupid jokes. I could see in his eyes how much he liked it and it made me even happier every time I looked at him. Sometimes it was hard to believe it was real because it looks like scene right out of my wildest dreams. I pinched myself at least a hundred time and I never woke up so I knew it was real.
When we arrived at Ashley's house, I was surprised that the ride was so short. Then I looked at the clock and saw that it had in fact taken us half an hour longer than it should have. I guess it was just the fact that I was enjoying the ride so much that time flew by like that.
Once we were out of the car we quickly looked around the house before trying to enter the place. I was about to enter when Jamie stopped me with his hand and went inside first. It pissed me off that he would do something but at the same time I felt as if he was trying to protect me. Oh God, that mixed up my mind so much. It took me a minute before I followed him into the house. On my right was a door that led to the master's bedroom. It was open and it looked empty. I looked at the staircase in front of me and then t the corridor on my left to see where Jamie might have gone. Having no idea whatsoever, I decided to choose randomly. I went upstairs and arrived in the small and dark living room. Of four doors, two were open and two were closed. Jamie was not here but I thought it would be better to check if anybody was here. I quickly checked the two rooms that were already opened and saw nothing particular. The bathroom was clean and, thank God, my room was untouched. I then walked to the door that led to Ashley's room and slowly turned the handle. It opened easily and I saw nothing more than in the two other rooms. It was almost deceiving me. At last, I turned to the last door. It was the room of Ashley's brother. When I finally opened it, I saw one of the most disgusting and disturbing scene in my life. The walls were painted in blood and in the middle of it, a big dog was laying on the floor its entrails out of its body next to a young boy that must have been Ashley's brother. His state wasn't letting me anything that could convince me his identity. All the skin around his face and torso was inexistent and you could see muscles torn in pieces by sharp teeth. The smell of it all wasn't really comforting and it made me sick in the stomach. I closed the door and went to the bathroom staying close to the toilet. My eyes were dry and it hurt. I tried to think of Jamie and it helped me go through my sickness without vomiting.
"Nate?" I heard someone ask softly, "Are you okay?"
I turned around and saw that Jamie had arrived upstairs. I gave him a small smile. "Yeah, just don't do to the room with the closed door... the scenery just made me sick..." I told him quietly.
"What happened in there?" He looked concerned as he sat on the floor next to me. If I listened to my heart, I would have leaned on him right then because I knew it would make me feel better but I figured he was already doing enough.
I didn't really know what had happened in that room but the more I thought about it, a hypothesis came to my mind. "I think the dog was turned just like humans are. I think it attacked Ashley's brother and his parents had to kill the dog but it was already too late for him."
Jamie looked at me with a sad expression. "I think his parents couldn't take it..." he trailed off.
"What do you mean?" I asked him, puzzled.
He looked away from me before saying the dreadful truth. "I found them in their bed, they cut open their wrists together," he said in small voice.
It struck me hard. I knew them and they were the best parents someone could hope for. Them being dead felt unreal. How will I tell Ashley that her whole family is now dead? As much as she tried to convince everyone she didn't cared about them, I knew her and I could see beneath her lies. She would be devastated. She seemed like a though girl but she was in fact really fragile. I didn't want her to break. She was like a sister to me. I loved and cared deeply for her.
My eyes were so dry again. It's as if my body kept me from crying. I glanced at Jamie who had said nothing for the last five minutes. "How can I tell Ashley that?" I questioned him, surprised to hear anger in my voice.
"You don't need to, I can tell her," he said calmly while putting his arm around my shoulder.
I gazed into his eyes, his beautiful eyes that held so much empathy and understanding. It calmed me so much that I felt my throat tightening and tears falling slowly down my cheeks. I shook my head. "I'm the only one who should... I knew them well and she's like a sister to me. I think I'm the only one who can really help her."
A small smile appeared on his face. "You're a good friend, Nate. Probably the best in fact," he said gently while hugging me loosely. It was calming and I just cried harder because of it. We stayed like that for a while. His presence was soothing me and making me emotional at the same time. Once my tears stopped, I backed out of the hug and stood up.
"Thank you," I muttered shyly.
He smiled and just nodded his head like it was nothing. "We should maybe start packing so we can go away from this place quickly."
He nodded again and stood up too. It took us forty minutes just to find everything that Ashley asked and pack it neatly in her luggage. By that time, I already packed everything I needed and just waited for Jamie to be done. Maybe I should have helped him more but who cares we're done! I guess to make me pay, he forced me to move everything in the car by myself while he said he wanted to search for good movies in the collection they had here. I didn't complain but God knows how much I wanted too. I didn't really mind the same time because it was him who asked me, which made me wanting to please him. I went downstairs and observed that Jamie had closed the bedroom door. I was thankful.
