there was a time

Minsan, pagkatapos ng mahabang araw, there's this ritual that Dennise unconsciously started. She'll turn off the lights in her condo, push the curtains to the sides so she can get a better view of the city lights while sitting on the couch. She'll turn on the TV and play some random songs on YouTube and just let it be.

During that time, when she's looking outside, amid silence and white noise from the TV, she'll find herself looking for Alyssa's presence.

And it's funny, because she's sure there was a time when she didn't need anybody to sit with her in silence. There was a time when she'll just be indulged in solitude alone.

Pero heto siya ngayon, sa kabila ng katahimikan, she can only close her eyes and tell herself sana nandito ka rin, Ly.

When the door lock clicks, Dennise opens her eyes, she peeks and sees Alyssa enter, "babe?"

"Babe? Sorry, wrong timing?" Alyssa asks.

"No, you're just in time," Dennise answered.

Alyssa makes her way to Dennise without turning on the lights, she puts her bag at the kitchen counter and sits beside Dennise.

"I tried to come home earlier, kaso traffic," Alyssa whispers.

"Bakit ka bumubulong?" Dennise asks.

"E kasi di ba ito yung quiet time?"

Dennise couldn't help but giggle, "technically yes, but you don't have to whisper, babe."

"Oh, okay," Alyssa answered.

The two were enveloped in silence. Dennise's leaning her head on Alyssa's shoulder. She smiles and sighs in relief.

This is the silence she's looking for.
