"Hey, I won't be able to come to India anytime soon.... I have received an assignment and I have to take care of it now....Put Sarah on please."
I hear a small rustling sound as the phone switched hands, "Momma?"
"Yes, baby?"
"Uncle Abhiraj is being mean, I want to come home."
"Sweetie, it's too dangerous for you to come here right now."
"But....why?"
"You know how I told you about how I used to get rid of very bad people that threatened to hurt us and other people?"
"Yeah, you told me you had stopped so you could be with me." She sounds so happy yet so confused, as if she's not sure where this is going but she's happy that even though I'm not her real mother I would stop doing the one thing I loved to take care of her.
I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose as I think of a good way to explain this, "Yes, I did stop but now there are some really bad hemophages that are trying to kill everything that isn't hemophage and the people I used to work for need me to help them take out the hemophage group."
Her small voice wavers and I can hear the tears threatening to choke her, "Last time you were working you and daddy got hurt really bad, now daddy's dead and you were close." I hear Abhiraj yelling in the background, "Please let me come home mommy, please."
"Okay honey, you remember my friend Steven?"
"Yes." Through her voice I can hear the small rays of sun poking through that dense cloud that seems to follow me everywhere I go.
"I'll be sending him to pick you up and he'll bring you to me, okay?"
"Thank you mommy! Uncle says I have to get off. I love you!"
"I love you too, baby girl. Please put your uncle back on."
"What did you tell her?"
I roll my eyes at how upset he seems, "That Steven is going to bring her to me."
"What? Why?"
"Because she doesn't like it there and I'm not going to force her into the throne if she doesn't want it."
"She's the princess and she needs to be here!" His voice has changed from enraged to almost pleading.
"My mind is set, she's coming home." Hanging up the phone I slump down in my chair.
I stare at my phone for a moment before I dial Steven's number. After a couple rings he picks up, "Hey, Ivory. What's up?"
