"Yo! I'm Kogane! The deathmatch known as the culling game is underway inside of this barrier!! Once you step in, you're a player too!! Knowing that, will you come inside anyway!?"

I nodded, "Yes."

A similar one appeared for Megumi, "Yeah, no problem."

"Y/n L/n has joined the culling game."

"Megumi Fushiguro has joined the culling game."

"Would you like to view the rules?"

"No thanks," I said to my Kogane.

"No need for that," Megumi said to his Kogane.

"The ones we really need to look out for are the sorcerers from the past who've been incarnated," I said.

"Yeah that's what I was thinking," Yuji agreed.

"For now let's collect information on Higuruma," Megumi suggested.

"Okay, let's go," I said.

I stepped through the colony barrier and looked around. There were broken buildings around and no one in sight.

Yuji? Megumi?

They were gone.

I decided that it was better for me to go up a tall building to see further so I quickly climbed up one. Once I was up, in the distance I saw someone move. They stood on the cracked rooftop of an old building, with a mask made from stitched leather, covering their entire face. A few tufts of dyed red hair stuck out from under a worn hoodie. They held a metal bat lazily over their shoulder, its surface bent and splattered with dry blood. A player.

I landed right in front of the guy. Maybe he could give me information about Higuruma, but I also gripped the hilt of my katana, ready to unsheath it if he turned out to be a threat.

"Hello, would you happen to know about a player called Higuruma?" I asked, standing in front of him. He gave me a long stare and chuckled. "Nah."

He was getting ready for a fight. He rushed forward, so I unsheathed my katana.

"First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter." A cyclone of horizontal slashes whipped around me through the air with wind pressure. The player leapt back and dodged, but a chunk of their hoodie sleeve was torn off.

"Tch," he said.

They lunged in again with a swing of the bat. I ducked low, then flipped backwards.

"Ninth Form: Idaten Typhoon." A burst of wind exploded downward. The shockwave shattered the ground where he stood, sending rubble and dust flying. The floor gave way beneath him. He fell straight down into the building through a broken hole in the roof, concrete and dust crumbling after him.

I jumped in right after him, inside the building was dark, but I spotted the player immediately, he was already back on his feet. However, the bat in his hand... had changed.

There was cursed energy around the bat, long, black spikes began growing from its sides, and the bat had changed its shape to a now twisted one.

"You're quick," he said, grinning under that stitched mask.

He charged forward, swinging the bat around. The bat split into two I slid under one hit and pivoted.

"Second Form: Claws-Purifying Wind." I slashed my katana downward, sending vertical slashes. He blocks the first three and barely blocked the last one, his bat clashed with the wind force and the slash hit the side of his face, making it bleed.

"Not bad," he shouted. He swung his bat and aimed for my feet so I leapt upwards and landed behind him.

"Sixth Form: Black Wind Mountain Mist." He was knocked off balance but he caught himself with his bat.

He grunted as I caught him off guard with Third Form: Clear Storm Wind Tree. Sending slashes that knocked the bat from his hands and sent it clattering to the floor. Before he could react, I was already in front of him. I tackled him back onto the ground, my knee on his chest, katana at his throat. The metal of the blade glinted coldly. I stared down at him, breath steady, "Do you know anything about Higuruma?"

"...Tch." He struggled a bit under my weight but didn't dare move. "Yes. Why should I tell you?"

I pressed the blade just slightly closer to his skin. "Because I don't mind ending this here."

He gulped. I stayed silent, thinking about the rules of the game. If I killed him, I'd get 5 points, as he seemed to be a sorcerer. Maybe it could be of use later. And I had no idea if this guy would come after me again later. He's just a player. They all knew what they were signing up for... right?

I gritted my teeth. Then finally, I sighed. I pulled the blade back just slightly. "You've already lost. Don't make this worse for yourself."

"...Shinjuku District," he muttered.

I narrowed my eyes, watching for any hint of a lie. His expression was hard to read beneath the mask. I wasn't sure if I believed him but it was a lead. I got up and turned my back to him, sheathing my katana. "Shinjuku District," I muttered to myself. "Better not be a lie."

Then I heard a rush of footsteps behind me. I spun around instantly, grabbing my katana, "Eighth Form: Primary Gale Slash."

The moment he was close enough to swing, he was already caught, he was slashed in the stomach. The impact also sent him flying across the floor, his body hitting the wall with a sickening crack. He collapsed. Motionless. Blood trickling down his mouth. I wasn't sure if he was dead until my Kogane popped out. "...Idiot."

"5 points have been added!!" The Kogane announced before disappearing.

I turned around to walk away. But after a moment, I glanced at him again.

I hadn't planned to kill him.

He made the choice.

I sighed, and walked toward the broken balcony at the far end of the floor. I stepped onto the ledge, and looked out over it. And jumped down. I landed easily and adjusted my katana. The streets were extremely quiet as I walked alone.

But then— BOOM!!

There was an explosion in the distance, I saw a flash of red and orange. It was in the direction of the Shinjuku district so I walked towards it.

Just then, Kogane popped out again.

"A player has added a rule to the Culling Game!!"

I stopped to listen to the rule, "Rule 10: Players may transfer a number of points of their choosing to another player."

"That's one of Megumi's plans..." Good.

As I got closer, I heard people fighting. Over one of the buildings, I caught a glimpse of an elephant, and then rabbits. That must be Megumi. However, when I got there, no one was there. I walked around the area trying to search for any signs of Megumi. Then I heard it, Megumi's divine dog howled. I quickly ran over to see Megumi collapse.

"Megumi-"

There above Megumi, was a girl with wings.
