Katie McCabe x Pregnant!Reader
Prompt: "Did the baby just kick?"
~
Having a lazy morning was often not in the cards for your family. Between your daughter's activities and playdates, and both of your and Katie's work schedules there was rarely time for lazy mornings.
Today however was a rare day where none of you had plans in the morning. Katie had a rest day, you took the day off for a doctor's visit in the afternoon, and your daughter only had a playdate after your appointment.
The three of you took full advantage of this time. With a three year old sleeping in wasn't in the cards, but you'd trade sleeping in for cuddles with your little family any day.
You woke up from the noise of your daughter playing in her room. Her giggles traveling to your bedroom. You had told Lily that when she woke up, she could play in her room. She had seen it as a fun activity she could do, but really you had told her so you could get a little more sleep in yourself.
Her happiness puts a smile onto your face, as you roll over to cuddle into your wife. Katie was still sound asleep, so you wrapped your arm around her and scooted closer so you could be her big spoon. After a few soft kisses to her back, you started dozing off again yourself. Somehow, you managed to fall back to sleep with the buzzing noise of your daughter in the background.
Well, until Lily decided that she was done playing and came to jump into bed with the two of you. She knew that she couldn't jump on you right now, because you were pregnant, and she knew you were growing her baby brother in your belly.
That meant that the still fully asleep Katie was your daughter's target. She climbed onto her side of the bed and started a cuddle attack. A term you had grown to love. A cuddle attack meant your daughter would jump in out of nowhere and put her little arms around you while yelling 'cuddle attack' to announce herself.
Katie awoke to your daughter's tiny body jumping into her and attacking her with cuddles. "Morning to you too, Cuddle Monster." She said with her voice still groggy, as she hugged her back.
Lily climbed over Katie and slid down in between the two of you. Knowing exactly where she needed to be to get cuddled from both sides. "Good morning!" She said cheerfully, before each of you squished her cheeks with a kiss.
You soaked in every second of the lazy start to your morning, just cuddling and chatting with your little family. "Cuddle mornings are my favourite." Lily said out of nowhere. It brought a smile to both of your face's. "Me too, baby." You said as you pressed a kiss to her forehead.
"I think we should have them more often. I love them and you very much." Katie said contently, while looking between you both.
You were about to agree with having them more often, when suddenly you froze. A strange, unfamiliar feeling settled in your stomach.
Katie noticed your sudden stillness, and sat up quickly. "What's wrong?" She said slightly panicked. You don't answer her question, too focussed on what's happening in your stomach. You press your hand to your stomach, accidentally worrying both Katie and Lily more.
"Did I hurt you, Mama?" Lily asked full of concern. That snapped you out of your focus. "No, love, Mama isn't in pain."
You lifted your eyes to meet Katie's. She saw the tears welling in your eyes, but realised there wasn't a sad or scared look in your eyes, but an excited, and awestruck one. "Wait, did the baby just kick?" She asked, thinking that she figured out what was going on.
With a nod and a teary smile, you say, "I think so."
Lily looks between the two of you with a confused expression plastered on her face. "What does it mean? Is baby hurting Mama?"
You shake your head. "No, love, the baby isn't hurting me. Here give me your hand and you can feel what it means." Lily reached out her hand, and you gently put it on your stomach, where the baby just kicked.
Her small hand was quickly joined by Katie's, both waiting to feel what you were feeling. For a moment there was nothing, no kicking, and no speaking. Your whole family was patiently waiting for your little boy to kick again. And then he did it again, another tiny kick, this time pressed against their hands.
Your eyes met Katie's, both of you with tears welling in your eyes. Having forgotten how great it was to feel your baby for the first time. Then your eyes moved over to your little girl, her eyes wide as she was still staring to where she had just felt the kick. "Was that really baby brother?"
You smiled wide, "Yeah, it was. I think he wanted to let us know that he was enjoying our cuddle morning too."
Katie leaned down and pressed a kiss to your belly. "Hi bubba, you've got some strong kicks already, huh?"
Lily giggled at Katie speaking to the baby before copying her. She left a sloppy kiss on your belly and said, "I love you baby brother." It was safe to say that both of your hearts melted in that exact moment.
You let your fingers move through Lily's hair. "You're going to be such a good big sister." Lily nodded proudly. "I'm gonna teach him all the important stuff."
"Oh yeah? Like what?" Katie asked as she pulled her back in for another hug.
Lily put her finger to her lips, thinking for a moment before saying, "How to cuddle attack, play football, and colour inside the lines."
Katie chuckled, "Sounds like you've got it all figured out. He's very lucky to have a big sister like you."
You had been a little nervous about how Lily would react to not being the only child anymore, and had been trying your best to prepare her to be a big sister, and in that moment you knew that everything was going to be alright.
Your baby boy was already so loved, and you couldn't wait to see your kids interacting together.
