Not a boy (Kagami x reader)

It was a normal morning and you were doing your usual routine. Wake up, brush your teeth, and eat.

You had short hair, a flat chest, and you never wore make-up because you always thought it was a hassle. Most people have mistakened you for a boy but you didn't mind much.

You walked outside of your apartment and was about to head to the store for groceries until you got stopped by someone.

"Uh... Hello!" A boy with dark red hair stopped you and greeted you awkwardly.

"Hi." He looked to be around your age. You haven't seen around here before so you thought that maybe he was a relative of one of your neighbors.

"So, I moved in today and it seems that I live next to you. Oh, and my name is Kagami Taiga. Nice to meet you." He held his hand out for you to shake and gave you a grin.

"My name is (L/N) (F/N). Nice to meet you too." You shook his hand and smiled. "Umm well, I'm about to go to the store to get some food, so maybe I'll talk to you some other time?"

"Alright. I need to unpack anyways." You two said goodbye and parted ways to do your own things.

Time skip~

You didn't like wearing a skirt so you always replaced it with jogging pants instead. You always got in trouble for it but the teachers eventually gave up.

As classes started, you sat down in your seat, and waited for class to begin. As you waited, some girls came up to you as usual and started chatting with you.

The teacher walked into the classroom and everyone settled down. When you looked to your side, you saw a certain red head sitting beside you. Your eyes widened in surprise as you didn't expect your neighbor to go to the same school as you.

As you were staring at him in shock, he felt a pair of eyes on him and turned in your direction. His eyes widened as well at the surprise.

"W-What are you doing here?" He asked still in shock. You rolled your eyes at the obvious question but knew what he meant.

"I go to school here. Seems like you do too." You gave a small smile to your neighbor. He grinned back at you.

"Well at least I know someone here." He was about to say more until he got interrupted by the teacher.

"AHEM! Kagami and (L/N), please listen to when I am explaining things, alright?" The teacher glare at you both. You nodded at the teacher and faced forward. You glanced over at Kagami and he mouthed the word sorry.

You two have been bonding together for the past couple of months but he still thought you were a boy and not a girl. You didn't think you had to tell him and that he would eventually find out but he was quite dense at times when he was given clues.

In class, you and him were assigned a project together and you decided to work on it at home. You both concluded to work on it at your house.

As you both arrived at the apartment, he went into his apartment to put away some stuff before heading over to yours. While he was in his apartment, you decided to prepare some snacks for him while you wait for his arrival.

You heard the front door open and you turned your head to see who it was. It was the same guy who couldn't figure out you were a girl after all these months you spend with him.

You plan on finally telling him that you're actually a girl just before he leaves.

"Hey! I'm here." He said then sat himself on your couch and looked over you apartment as if judging it.

"It...It looks kinda girly in your apartment. Do you have a sister who lives who you or something?" He asked you while you set the snacks down on the table and took a seat beside.

"*sigh* I'll tell you later. Lets just focus on the project for now." You and him began to work on the project while munching on snacks.

You and him finished half of the project by the time the sun was down. Just before he was about to leave, you stopped him.

"Hm? Is something wrong (L/N)?" He turned around to face you looking a bit confused. You gave him a serious gaze which caused him to freeze and tense up a bit.

"I need to tell you something." He nodded and waited for you to continue. You took a breath before speaking and telling him the truth.

"I'm actually a girl and not a boy." You glanced up at him to see his reaction. His face contorted into shock and confusion at your statement.

"W-What?" After he had said a single word, an uncomfortable silence came over you two. After a few minuets of silence, he decided to speak up once again.

"So after all these months, I didn't even know your gender?" He sighed.

"You aren't the only one who mistook me for a boy." Hearing what you said had made him feel a bit better.

"So... Will you see me as a girl now? Or are you gonna still treat me as a boy?" You asked after Kagami kinda recovered from the shock.

"Umm, well. I'll try to treat you as a girl. I guess." He replied awkwardly.

You two felt a bit awkward after the confession but soon began to go back to being best friends again after a few weeks.
