"Stay with me Steadson! Stay with me!" Alex heard. But this time, Mackenzie's voice faded into the fort doctor's voice. Alex's eyes shot open and he inhaled quickly as he came back to life. He laid there breathing heavy. "He's alive..." the fort doctor said the the commanding officer. The commanding officer didn't smile or anything. He stood there emotionless. "Bury the bodies and give me the casualty count and the number of wounded. I've got to put all this shit in my report..." he said and then walked away. The two soldiers helped Alex to his cot and then went to go take care of the pile of bodies in the fort.
Alex laid there in his cot thinking about what he saw. He acknowledged the fact he was gone but was confused by everything Mackenzie said. Who is Alaster? What did she mean by she'll see him soon? He fell asleep thinking about all of this.
A few months passed and Alex was still pondering everything that had happened. 14 soldiers died, 16 were wounded, 5 were sent home because they'd never recover from their injuries. The army that attacked was from Havenville. Havenville was a territory that hadn't expanded their borders for almost 7 years. They were small and only attacked little villages that couldn't defend themselves. Havenville was no more than a small blip to Maximilian. Now he wants them put in their place.
The commanding officer was ordered to organize a small army to attack and cripple Havenville. He was also told to promote one man to lead the attack. Alex was the one chosen to lead and was promoted to lieutenant. He was to lead 25 of the best soldiers to kill off Havenville's army, kill anyone who gets in the way, capture slaves and take resources. They would leave in the middle of the night so that they'd never see the attack coming.
