Deserters

The Raid

In the middle of the night, Alex and his 25 soldiers mounted up on their horses and set out towards Havenville. 4 other soldiers came too. Their horses carried wagons to take supplies back in. It was a short journey, only an hour or so until they saw Havenville. It was a decent sized town, but it was amazing they had an army so large.

Alex took a deep breath and then order his men to charge into the village. Their horses ran at full speed towards the village and the men screamed as they charged. One man of the Town Watch tried to raise the alarm but before he could one of the soldiers slashed him and he fell to the ground dead instantly. Some of the Havenville soldiers came running out of the barracks but were immediately cut down by multiple soldiers who ran by on their horses. One soldier threw a molotov into the doorway of the barracks making it impossible for anyone to escape the flames. Screams roared from inside as the flames spread and men engulfed in flames came running out thrashing around until they burned to death. This happened to every building that had a guard or any type of person who tried to fight back.

Villagers were slaughtered. Buildings were burned to ash. Over 30 people were taken as slaves, almost all of the food, water and fuel was taken and the village was reduced to almost nothing. It was enough that it wouldn't take them off of the map, but they would never be able to attack anyone ever again.

Alex and his men returned by early morning with praise from the whole fort. The prisoners were immediately put on a carriage to the Capitol, the supplies were put where they belonged and Alex and his men were rewarded with a huge breakfast. Alex hardly ate as he replayed everything that happened in his head.

Alex was in charge of many raids like that throughout the next year. He was always successful and had only lost 2 men the entire year. They started to not bother him anymore and he did more and more raids. Alex became ruthless and had no remorse. He was promoted to Captain and was tasked with one more raid to carry out. This one came from Maximilian himself and sent 30 of the best soldiers in the nation to fight with Alex. Although this raid was like none other that Alex had done before.
