Deserters

Alex slowly tried to open his eyes but it was so bright it blinded him. When he was able to open his eyes he was in his cot... but everything around him was white aside from him, his cot and the patch of grass beneath him and the cot. He looked around and saw nothing but white. He was only wearing the clothes he had on when he was being stitched up and his wound was open, but not bleeding. He ran his fingers across it and then looked at his hand before looking back into the distant nothing before him.

Suddenly Alex heard footsteps behind him and he snapped his whole body in the direction of the noise reaching for his sword that wasn't there. He looked at his side for it before snapping his head up at the sound of the footsteps getting closer.

Out of the white a girl in a long white dress appeared. She was about 5'6", had long strawberry blonde hair, pale skin and was slightly smiling. She walked up to Alex so she was only a couple feet away. Alex looked her in the eyes and recognized her. "...Mackenzie..." he said quietly in shock. She smiled and took hold of his hands lightly.

Mackenzie was one of Alex's only friends growing up. She was the only one who accepted him for who he was and not his status. Mackenzie and her mother escaped from Maximilian's territory after her father died. It took Alex years to forget about her.

Alex just looked at her confused and in shock. "Kay... where am-" Alex began to ask her but she put a finger up to his mouth and shushed him. She lowered her finger and smiled a little bit. "Don't ask any questions. It'll all make sense to you eventually." She said softly to him. She stepped back a little bit and looked at Alex from his feet up. She chuckled and smirked a little bit "Go clean up, Alaster. You look like shit." Alex looked at Mackenzie puzzled. "What did you just call me?" He asked confused and still slightly in shock. She smiled and turned around disappearing into the whiteness. "Kay? Kay!" Alex screamed after her. "Alex, I need you to close your eyes now..." he heard her voice say from all around him. He looked around in a slight panic. "KAY!" He screamed out again. "Alex, close yours eyes..." he heard again. He stepped back and fell into his cot. He sighed and closed his eyes reluctantly. "Now stay with me..." Alex tried to open his eyes but he couldn't. "Kay! Whats going on?" He screamed and tried to move but he couldn't. "I'll see you soon Alaster..." He heard her say. "Who is Alaster? KAY!" He yelled out one last time but there was no response. Alex tried to get up again but still couldn't. He felt a sharp pain in his stomach and screamed before blacking out again...
