Ashton's pov

"Have you decided what you'd like to eat?" I ask, my eyes stuck firmly on hers. From now on, I will be winning this unspoken staring contest. Well, I'll try.

"I was about to ask what you would like to start with." The corners of Joliè's mouth curved slightly as she spoke, causing my new favorite feeling deep inside my belly.

"Can we choose together?" I ask casually, biting my lip before speaking again. "Do you want to sit over here so we can decide?"

Her eyes light up at my question, and she quickly, but coolly, slides out of her side of the booth and slides into mine. Scooting close enough that our thighs touch.

Always the touch, this one. I love it.

I smirk, watching her eagerness. Every one of her movements caused my confidence to grow larger. Confirming my decision further.

"I would love to choose together." She opens the menu and holds it with her right hand in front of us, causing a smile to break out largely on my face as I take the other half with my left hand.

"Did you know that you make me feel so giddy? I've never felt like this before in my life. I don't understand what you've done to me, Joliè. This is so unsettling for me. One moment, I was deeply in depression, and now all I can think about is you, your energy, and your kindness. Do you know how kind you are? It's actually really insane, and oh! Also, how wonderful you are." I kept my eyes locked on her, happiness oozing out of me as I ranted.

I honestly had no idea what had come over me, but I just had to tell her how I was feeling. It's like these words have been sitting in my throat, waiting to be said ever since I acknowledged that I liked her. And now that I've told her, I feel so much lighter.

Joliè's face brightened with each word I spoke. By the time I'd finished, she was a blushing and grinning mess.

"I am so happy to hear that. I was afraid that you might be nervous, and you would not feel calm enough during dinner." She explains, and I can tell she has more to say, so I wait patiently before I respond.

"Before we talk, I just want you to know. I am happy with whatever decision you make. I only hope that we can stay connected, even if it is platonic, because these last few weeks have been absolutely unreal, and I do not want to live a life where you are not involved." She moves her hand to my thigh, her touch sending a shiver down my leg. Her eyes shone with optimism and hope, but little does she know that she already has me locked under her spell.

I turned my attention back to the menu, attempting to keep my reaction neutral, even though inside I was giggling and giddy like a little schoolgirl. She kept her stare on my side profile for a moment, then shifted her gaze to the menu. Our eyes move together as we scan over the appetizer items.
