Chapter 5

Going to the door she couldn’t see anything as she peered out the little crack. She slipped on her slippers and her robe that hung on the back of the door and walked out. Looking around she couldn’t see anything but the light for the stairs.

Maybe I imagined it, wouldn’t be the first time. Walking quietly down the stairs, as not to wake anyone, she even stepped two stairs down to miss the squeaky floor board on the second flight landing. She came to the bottom of the stairs, wondering why there were no lights on down here if someone was awake. She shrugged and figured it was her imagination, because she couldn’t see anything. Figuring while she was already down here she would grab a snack from the kitchen. She walked through the hall and into the kitchen, stumbled around for the fridge door, and opened it planning on having some pie and ice cream. She opened the door and the light from the refrigerator came on. Reaching in she pulled out the whipping cream and put it on the counter. From the corner of her eye a shadow moved; turning her head she saw it. There in the shadows was a tall black cloaked figure. Panic set in.

Bailey looked to the stairs hoping someone would come running if she screamed loud enough. To her shock the figure spoke “They can’t hear you Bailey Rae Cale, it will do you no good to scream.” As if the figure had not spoken she let out a scream that echoed throughout the house. Hoping for a thud or someone to acknowledge her scream, she waited for a moment looking at the stairs, finally she heard nothing. Bailey was sure that, that was a very loud scream, her ears were still ringing.

“As I said young one, no one can hear you” spoke the tall figure.

“What have you done to them, I swear if you hurt them I’ll-“

Cutting Bailey off the figure spoke again “That's not necessary my dear, nothing has happened to them, they are asleep.”

Confused and terrified she stared at this figure, the voice reminding her of singing wind chimes; it was beautiful and soft as velvet. She felt like screaming again only the way this figure talked, she knew deep down no one would hear her! She stood frozen with the fridge door open. Realizing it was open she stepped aside and closed the fridge, unable to muster anything else, she just stood there.

“I am sorry if my presence frightens you young one, I am not here to make you fearful” spoke the figure. Suddenly as if someone was dimming a light on, the light slowly rose to more than a candle light, allowing just enough for Bailey visions to take shape. She looked around for another person, but saw nothing, in fact the light switch was right next to the fridge, and the shadow figure was not. As she brought her gaze back to the dark figure it began pulling her hood back.

Shock stunned Bailey, this time from astonishment. The most beautiful woman appeared to be hiding under the dark cloak. Bailey had never seen someone who looked like that before, letting out a gasp as the shock of her beauty pulled out some of baileys worst nightmares. Bailey always though she was average looking, not having a perfect body, her hips were bigger than they should be and she was more full figured than any of her friends; though she was always told by Dean and her mom, that she was the most beautiful person they knew. Bailey started to feel sad, she began to feel like she was ugly, and she felt small.

The elegant lady crossed the kitchen floor slowly; allowing Bailey to see she meant no harm. Bailey tried to calm herself and rid the feeling she was having, though with the image of a pure angelic beauty standing in front of her, calm was not what she was thinking. The lady stopped on the other side of the table, next to a chair, and began to speak.“I am here to offer you a gift” Spoke the lady.

“A what” asked Bailey not sure she heard her right.

“A gift young one” continued the lady.
