Kelli's POV

It's the afternoon and I'm sitting with Julia in the family room. Mariska had felt ill and I had her rest in her room. Julia has requested to talk to me, and as a butler, I have no choice. We're both looking out the window where the golden rays of the sun are beginning to disappear and the clouds begin to churn into the color Julia's salmon dress.

"Why did you wish to talk to me?" Is the sentence that breaks the incredibly long silence? She turns her head in my direction, her hand under her chin.

"I wanted to have a casual talk with you; I haven't had one in a while," she answers, her lips turned upward in a smile. I look at her, as I pop the knuckles on my hands.

"Well then, speak; I don't have the rest of the night."

"I know you think I'm going to hurt Mariska, but I'm not going to harm her. I came here to apologize and that's the only reason," she said as she made and imaginary cross over her heart.

"Why do I have a hard time believing that story?" I ask, my hand hovering over the pocket knife in my pants.

"It's the truth; I was just coming here to apologize!"

"Well, she's not going to forgive you, so you can leave."

"Well, maybe instead of that... I could earn your feelings," she whispered, her hips rising out of the seat she was sitting in seconds ago.

"Julia, don't try anything idiotic!"

She walked in front of my legs, her hand resting on my thigh. I pull out my knife; the blade is only a centimeter from her neck. She doesn't come any closer, and I put the knife closer to her neck so she'll back away.

"I believe this has been all the time I can offer, I'm leaving," I say, leaving the room. Julia doesn't have time to respond because I'm already at the staircase leading to Mariska's room. I walk up the stairs and enter her room as quietly as I can.

She is facing the window opposite of the door. I strip off my clothes and pull on the over-sized shirt I usually wear to bed. The sun is almost completely set by now, and the room is still dimly lit by the rays. I climb into the bed next to Mariska. I lay behind her and wrap my arm over her side and down the front of her stomach. I plant a light kiss on her cheek, and that's when I notice that her eyes are open, and she is awake.

"I thought you'd be asleep by now," I whispered into her ear, my forehead grazing the chestnut locks above her ear.

"I couldn't sleep; I'm not tired," she said to me, her eyes staring into the sunset.

"Well, what do you want to do?" I ask quietly, my arm pulling her body into mine.

"Can we just talk?" she suggests, turning under my arm until she and I are facing each other.

"Only the best for my Mistress."

Mariska kisses the tip of my nose which is something I've noticed she does when she's scared. "What did Julia want to talk about?"

I didn't want to tell her; she is already scared enough that I'll leave her. If she finds out Julia is trying to seduce me, she'll never be away from me until the day she knows Julia is out of the country. "... She wanted to tell me why she came here. She said that it was to apologize, and I told her that you wouldn't forgive her and I wouldn't either. Then she said she wanted to..."

"She wanted to what, Kelli?"

I swallowed slowly before answering her question. "She wanted to earn my feelings back. She tried to seduce me, and I pulled out a knife on her, and she stopped. I didn't want to do anything I swear! I left the second-"

Mariska placed her hand on my mouth, and I stopped speaking. "You promise you got up?"

"I swear on my life," I promised. Mariska's hand that had been covering my mouth was on my cheek, stroking the skin softly.

"It's not that I don't trust you, I just have the worst anxiety possible."

"I won't let her come between us, I don't love her, and I love you. I don't care if I've known you for less than a year, I love you, I love you, and I love you."

"I love you too," Mariska whispered, kissing me before closing her eyes.
