Maybe, this is not how it's supposed to be. But, I want it to be better, but I know that I can't change a thing.
Scythe's POV
I can't stop thinking about her. I want to stop, but I can't. Miriam fills my mind for the whole time I'm in training. Sierra is concerned, but I told him to can it. I didn't want him to be concerned for me. It would ruin the plans I have, to think that someone who cares for me a little too much.
I asked for leave on Friday, and was given the day off. I wonder how my general knew about my relationship. Actually, he should know, because he had me field tested, and my personal files pulled up from day one. He had been tracking me since I joined the Academy.
She wanted to see me for so long, but I just couldn't find the time to meet her. Now that I have the time, I might as well buy something for her. Our 6th year anniversary wasn't for another four months, but I feel that I should buy something for her. It's only right that I do that, after being away for so long.
I left the compound and tried to flag a cab to reach the centre of town. Incredulous, there's not a single cab in this goddamn place. It must be a secluded spot then, I'll walk.
I unlocked my phone and started to write a text to her.
To: Miriam
Hey cutie, I'm back! Heard you wanted to see me? I was going to get some lunch? You aren't studying today by any chance?
By the way, I have the day off today, want to hang?
c u!
From: Scythe
I locked my phone, but was alerted of a message. That was fast, I thought...
To:Scythe
Hey, yeah so I was going out today, but I thought about it, realizing that I still have a few assignments let to do, but I'm free for today. How about you meet me at the Square? Hope you aren't wearing anything too formal ;)
From: Miriam
I smiled, because she never knew what I did, and if she did, she would be horrified. I stepped down onto the pavement, and started to walk toward the Square. It was a short walk from here. I would reach there faster than she would, so I decided to get her something. I walked past a toy store. Oh, I know...
Five minutes later...
I walked in and bought a giant teddy. Wait, how am I supposed to hide this from her? Actually, I don't need to, it ain't our anniversary. Hahah, I need to find somewhere to sit so that I can wait for her. Hey isn't that Tex? What's she doing here? I walked over and tapped her shoulder.
"Ah! Scythe, you scared me...Don't do that. I could've punched you in the face you know.." She said, with the angriest look on her face. Uh oh, something's wrong...
"So, what are you doing here? You seem, nervous. And slightly pissed off." I queried. She gave a look that reminded me of the mission in Florida. "Well, the general has put Riot, Sierra and I on recon. There has been sightings of Sigma in the area. In addition, we've been alerted of this rogue group called "The Insurrection". They're a terror group, but they've been inactive for some while. The rest of the squad is back at base. You should know, because you're the last one to leave, right?"
I nodded. Sigma, I looked around for signs of Miriam. If he's here, I better get her out of here. And this, this Insurrection, could pose a problem. Especially if they were working with Sigma. "What did the general say?" I was starting to get worried now.
"He said, that if this thing blows up, we may have to split and take the upper hand before they make any moves. Intel says that they have multiple nuclear warheads at their disposal. Apparently some of them were kept from the military when the bombs landed. Do you have any weapons?"
