Chapter Three

Mae blinked, looking at him blankly.

The Dæmon waved weakly, chuckling, "Um...Did you take the job?" he asked, mentally hoping she hadn't heard Shadow mention the Lusus.

She crossed her arms, "I'm thinking on it. Not too fond of it, though..."

Shadow pranced up to her, his tail swishing behind him, "I hope you take it, then Dei wouldn't be so insecure about you hearing about his Lusus!"

Deitonin face palmed.

Mae raised an eyebrow, looking at them, "Pardon?"

"Ignore him...he's delusional." Deitonin sighed.

"But Dei, you changed right after you—"

"Silenz!" he snapped, making the Werecat freeze up.

Mae frowned, "You know, you don't have to be so mean to him. I'm not a stranger to transformations."

Deitonin looked to her in shock, "Really?"

Shadow bounded over and swatted his leg with a paw, "Yeah Dei, be nice to your mentor!" he said jokingly. This made the Dæmon roll his eyes.

Mae nodded, "Yeah, I have. I've actually seen just about everything this world has to offer. Good, and bad."

He rubbed the back of his neck, "Eh...this thing's not really...of this world..."

She shrugged, "Okay."

Deitonin slowly pulled his hood back and removed his visors, "So...what're you doing now?"

"Not much, wandering around."

"Wandering to anywhere in particular?" he asked.

Mae shook her head, "No. Why?"

Deitonin felt his cheeks start to warm and looked away, hiding the blush, "Um...no reason..."

"Really...?" she asked, cocking and eyebrow.

Deitonin ran a hand through his hair, "Well...I was going to go to Haven Forest for the night..."

"Why Haven Forest?" she asks.

He shrugged, "Eh...It's away from people, you know, big open spaces and trees...and stuff?"

Mae chuckled, "I guess you're right. Mind if I tag along?"

"If you'd like." he said walking past her, "Just keep your sword close."

"Always do."

"Good." Deitonin said looking out to see that Torn was still up, "Jeez, do you ever sleep?"

"I doubt it," Mae say, earning them a glare from the Tattooed Wonder.

The Dæmon waved, "Bye, tell Rhi to go to Haven Forest if I'm not back in the morning."

Torn nods faintly.

Deitonin moved to the elevator as Shadow hopped onto the table beside Torn, accidentally knocking over the papers he was working on.

The Dæmon looked down at Mae as she came to stand beside him, the elevator doors shutting before them. He couldn't help but blush as he took in her features, but quickly looked away as his Lusus started cackling.

You seem flustered... Fukushuu purred, Is the female causing it?

Deitonin put a hand to his head, sighing under his breath, Shut up...

Feisty...

Mae looked up at him, frowning, "Hey, you alright?"

"As good as I'll ever be..." he said rubbing his temple.
